How long is optimal time for soaking WBS? I read in 6t's WBS tek that any longer than 12 hours and the WBS will ferment, but I've also hear grain needs 24-36 hours for optimal moisture content. How long should my friend soak his bird seed before he PC's it?

My friend soaks all of his grains including WBS for 36 hours, no simmering. Great results!

12 hours usually will be long enough. Just soak it overnight. In the morning, cut into a seed with your fingernail to test for moisture. If it doesn't break easily, let it soak longer.
Warm water will shorten the process. I soak mine in warm water and replace it every few hours or place them on a warm burner.

Hey man, I grow the GC on wbs because they love it! I soak my wbs for 24 hours. Sometimes it ferments and gets nasty white mold starting to grow on it and sometimes, it doesent. It really doesent matter I don't think. Everything gets killed when you pc anyway. I've done a shitload of jars like this and have never had one to contam.

12 - 24 - 36 But my Iguana never goes more than that.It does start to ferment and smell bad. These are no doubt contams taking hold. Like Ainasko said warm water replaced with fresh warm water over a 12hr period works great for water absorbsion in a shorter amount of time. Why kill 50billion contaminant spores when you have a better chance of killing 30billion?IMHIO

I've soaked wbs for as little as 9 hours and had great results. I just wouldn't do any less than 8. 6t knows his shit. If he says 8 to 12 hours is enough, then he's experimented with the times and knows it works. Like he says in the tek though, it doesn't matter if you go over 12, it will just ferment a little.
