Sterilizing Dung?

Ok, I have access to both cow and horse dung... I was thinking about ordering zoodoo, but I figured why spend the money when I can get a few hundred pounds of manure for free, heh. Anyway, I was wondering what the cleanest way to go about sterilizing dung was. I don't want my house smelling like cow shit or anything :o|~ Also, I'm going to be growing pan trops and someone gave me a recipe from anno that is:
5 cups vermiculite
3 cups dung
10 tablespoons of brown rice flour
2 cups water
makes 10-12 half pints
I was thinking about using something similiar to that but with finch seed... like boil the finch seed, drain and mix with dung, put in my jars and sterilize. I figured I'd use about the same thing but just 5 cups of steeped finch seed to 3 cups of dung and some whole wheat flour. My normal cakes are steeped finch seed, drained, mixed with a little WWF, then pressure cooked... so this would be about the same thing but with dung. Anyway, whats the best way to go about sterilizing horse/cow dung? I'm probably going to be using horse dung.

this is an old thread from 3m, the master of dung......................You want the dung to be nice and dry. Make sure to get some that has lots of white stuff on it. This is actinomyces and serves to keep other contams at bay while providing an extra food source for your shrooms.
This is how I use horse dung...
First crumble it into a large pillow case until you have the desired amount.
Bring a large pot of water to boil on the stove. Reduce the heat and submerge the dung. Be careful because you will have water trying to boil up the sides of the bag and you may get burned.
keep the pot at a very low boil for an hour to an hour and a half. Let it cool.
Hang the bag so it will drain. I have a special broom handle setup on two sawhorses for exactly this purpose. let it drain for about 6 hours.
Wash your hands and reach in and grab a fistfull of the dung and squeeze it. If you can just get a bit of water out of it then the moisture is perfect.
I line a 45 liter container with tinfoil and dump in the dung to a depth of about 2". To each of these containers I add 5 or 6 crumbled half pints of grain. BRF works fine as spawn. I haven't noticed any real benefit to using whole grains except that they are harder to get fully colonized for newbies.
I saved this old reply...works great...

Actually, that is BJ's recipe not Anno's. If you are talking about sterilizing the dung in the recipe...it will be sterilized when you P.C. your jars, you do not need to pre-sterilize it. If you are talking about sterilizing it for bulk use---you do not want to sterilize it you only want to patuerize it. Baking at 250 for 1&1/2 hours works well.

So, just get ahold of some horse dung at toss it in the stove @ 250 for 1.5 hours? That sounds easy enough, does it stink up the house or anything though?
I had planned on using the cake recipe with the dung but also putting a small layer of dung over those crumbled cakes. Thanks for the info guys.

Very true.
I simply moisten dried dung from the store to the correct moisture, add some cooked birdseed, some gypsum, load into jars and PC for 1 hour.

"Don?t ask what gypsum does for you, ask what you can do for gypsum..." ;)
No, really, it is supposed to buffer the substrate a little and to provide some microelements. Probably if you omit it, it won?t do much harm.
