Night Terrors
    #4493827 - 08/04/05 03:04 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Anyone ever had them?

I have for the past few nights and it's fucking horrible.

Imagine the worst fear ever, being paralysed and things changing shape in your room.

I did have these when I was young. I would wake up SCREAMING and then fall back to sleep. Never remembered a thing.

I get them sometimes.  When it first started happening, it was incredibly scary.  Totally paralyzed in fear.

Now, I can work with it somehow.  It's all a state of mind for me.  I can't explain what I do, other then just LET the terror run it's course.

I hope you can shake them

Dreams move differently than reality or even drugged reality.

I've had sleep paralysis twice, never night terrors.

Sleep paralysis i have had a couple of times too, apparently your brain stops your muscles from acting out your dreams so shuts them down while your in deep sleep. Sleep paralysis is when you wake up eyes darting around the room unable to move, its not nice, i've woken up shaking and groaning many a time.

Maybe if i get dead drunk and pass out i'll be able to have a good sleep!

Drunk sleep is not good sleep

Try kava kava or melatonin

Also, meditate before you sleep

I get sleep paralysis semi-frequently, and have had a handful of episodes of night-terrors... for me its a place where I cannot get myself awake, but falling deeper into the dream-state is a terrifying alternative... so you just sit there and mentally flail, trying to wake up, trying to move, in this weird world between the dream life and waking life.

Sleep paralysis/night terrors are scary, but I'm glad I get to experience them every once in a while.  I get the sort of perverse fascination that I get after a particularly difficult trip... I know it was scary, but part of me wants to go through it agian

i had em bad when i was a little kid, luckily i cant remember any of them, in fact i would forget them as soon as i woke up, but my parents say they sat in my room with me screaming at the top of my lungs for sometimes a half an hour before i would wake up. I dont remember it, but apparently it sucked for them

my cousin says he used to have that sometimes, he realizes hes in a dream, but he cant wake up and cant move and he knows something bad is bout to happen, but luckily he said he learned to wake himself up

and i would suggest using that to your advantage, you have an easy access to realizing your in a dream, try just going with it if you know its not real, and learn to control your dreams (counscious dreams)

I don't think it's ever happened to me but I could be wrong....

Sounds fucked up though!

I like nice dreams that I remember clearly when I wake up, that doesn't happen very often though.

Yeah I think you could apply a similar principle to tripping to them...flow with it. Once you realize you're dreaming (this may be difficult, however), then go with it, lucid dream, see where the dream world will take you, float over the heavens, and try to enjoy it (or if not, then try to not get frightened). Aside from that, the idea of meditating before bed is a good one.

thanks for making this post. I have these every few months or so. Tell me if this makes any sense to you guys.

I'll be dreaming then suddenly I become lusid in the dream as soon as I become lusid something evil happens but you can never tell what exactly it is. It's like your soul or something is battling a force.

Fuck, now that I think about it its not so easy to describe to others, all I know is that when they happen you like battle to wake up from it because you half know its a dream but at the same time you cant awake and escape from it.

I went to st thomas and camped out ontop of the island... Despite my entire family being poor all my life, the land is priceless.
I was chased by haitians in the main city charlotte amalie when my girlfriend and I got some cocaine for free in a bar and mixed it with alcohol, to form a stronger drug. With such confidence at 2am, we walked the 4-5 or so miles down to the beach where the african slaves lie like lions waiting on tourist prey.

The war isen't on drugs... the war is on the causes that influence people to abuse drugs. drug-abuse is a by-product of the system and much like radioactive waste occurs from utilizing nuclear power, drug addicts with drug-problems will need to be properly disposed of, like the decaying radioactive waste produced from nuclear energy. -i2ancid
