Sleep Paralysis
    #3931871 - 03/17/05 08:20 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Im not sure if this is the right forum to be posting this, but i did look for a dream forum...I couldn't find it. So i apologize....but anywho, I was about to fall asleep last night and I was cracking my nuckles. I also cracked my jaw which is pretty normal for me. That's the last normal thing i remeber doing. For the next 3 minutes I was literally Paralyzed. I couldn't move at all. Intese surges radiated over my body and this sort of humming rang though my head. I wasn't scared, it was just weird as hell. This ever happen to any of you>>?

This thing has been happening to me for several years now, I'm amazed I'm not the only one.

I sleep at night, and fall into this state which is as if I'm between sleeping and being awake. There are the surges and vibrations pulsating all over, weird non existent sounds and what have you. Its as if My body is alseep yet my mind is still fully functional.

Stick with it, try to do it more. After a few months of it I realized I was able to practically create sounds on command while in the state, I could imagine a glass breaking and I would hear it. This eventually led to me experimenting with the "sleep paralysis" state to provoke lucid dreams. It worked a few weeks ago. Any way to sum up this rant, yes it happens to me and I beleive somewhere within the phenomena there is potential.

Keep with it, it can be quite fun

yup... happened over here... first time somewhen last year, and again a couple of weeks ago...
there's a lot of pages on the web on this, google it up, you'll be amazed how much info there is...
good to know i'm not alone on this ship hehehehe... i actually know quite a lot of people who suffer from it... weirdly enough all of them are into psychedelics... i think it has something to do with the increased awareness that comes from these drugs...

I wouldn't say people "suffer" from it... unless they find it scary

once in a while I suffer from it.

It honestly feels like Im about to die each time, it's a horrifying experience and it has a bad physical effect on me anyway.

well to be honest i found it to be an extremely scary and disturbing experience and all i wanted was to get out of there... i feel i have to add the fact that (just like most people who have experienced sleep paralysis) i felt the presence of a being right there in the room with me...

youre lucky to a degree then :/

whenever I get it I have no awareness of being ina room and just feel my heart stop, lungs stop, see nostalgiac images flash before me , feel my limbs die and prepare to die. Until I come to, still paralyzed but scared shitless.

Next time it happens to one of you try to take control over it and familiarize yourself with it. I too used to be scared shitless of it, but after some time i was used to it.

And If able, try shaking your legs to wake up out of it... thats what I do to snap out of that trance. I dont know if it would work on everyone though

I'm sure there are different degrees with it. I have very bad genes for nervous stuff- trust me I can't take control of it.

I had it happened to me awhile back and it scared the shit out of me I thought I was posessed and tried to call out for help, but my voice wasnt working. If you try and get out of it you'll be stuck. You just gotta relax and try and move a finger or another body part. I definatley felt a presence and thought it had entered me.

It happened a few months later and this time I wasn't afraid and it was actually quite neat to experince.

How can I get this to happen again?

it happens when you are under extreme stress and something bothers you while your sleeping, at least as far as I can tell

Also, the problem is that I *cant* move anything. I tried being rational and taking control, thats when I realized I couldnt move anything at all and prepared to die since I felt my heart stop.

It happend to me one time when I fell asleep on some Hydrocodon, apparently opiates cause it.

I think it might happen if you wake during a certain time durring sleep like REM...

Sleep Paralysis is a completely normal phenomenon. If it didn't happen, you'd toss around in your bed as you dream.
I don't think the joint cracking had anything to do with it. I get sleep paralysis all the time, at least once a week. It puts you into an excellent state to induce out of body experiences.

Also Irish, here's the URL for a great forum on (lucid) dreaming, astral projections, and out of body experiences: http://ld4all.com/forum/index.php

Yeah, this has happened to me plenty of more times than I would have liked for it to happen. I do remember though, this one time I tried to move and I heard some kind of mumbled chant. It was really quiet. I tried to hard to get out of it, because it felt like I was suffocating. my lungs where dead

Not sure what your views are on Astral projection/out of body experiences, but sleep paralysis is a perfect state to go "out of body". The surges and sounds you described are par with what most people hear before they have an out of body experience.

Have a day! =0)

Every time it happends it feels like my body is being flushed through itself as if it is yearning to get on the outside. For some reason I can't let go though

you know the problem i have with OBE's (i have had 2 or three while listening to tool on different drugs) is the coming back thing... how the hell do you return? those times it all sorta happened naturally but i dunno with sleep paralysis i feel i would be doing it consciously, which can make a big difference but also be quite scary...

another thing... after the first time i made a post about this in s&p i believe and someone told me that sleep paralysis is the best way to achieve an OBE.. but this last time it happend i couldn't manage to let go, so i just tried to snap out of it...

i went to sleep on opiates before and i could fly like superman. it was the number one best dream of my entire life, i was flying around in the mall, fully in control of which way i was flying.
