food dehydrator...best form of drying available?

I read somewhere that this is by far the best method of drying, but don't they use heat? the one we have looks like it uses heating coils on the bottom and then blows the hot air up into the trays to dry.

anyone know anything about this?

If it is only warm air it is fine. I put mine on my hepa filter for two days then put them into a dessicant chamber.

warm air dosen't take any potency away hey? what about putting them in a dessident chamber right away after picking?

will that take forever to get them dry?

i have heard anything over 80 Degrees F can have adverse affects on potency. Whether or not this is true i do not know

i was makin mushroom tea and my doorbell rang it slipped my mind 10 mins lata i walk into them boiling on high thought to myself... damn what a waste... so i said fuc
k it and drank it...0 and guess what no potency lost :)

Some mushies are way to wet to just put in the chamber air drying with a fan first is by far the best method. Then put in to the dessicant chamber.

If one were to grow shrooms, using heat to dry them is not the way to go- cause the magic is decrased exponetially - Id say get a nice air tight rubbermaid, or like container- and laydown some thick paper towels- then put down a layer of dessicant- suspend a screen of some sort- I find a spatter screen for bacon works great- and they are cheap - look in kitchen section of any general merchandise store 1 - 3 bucks each - and slice up shrooms thinly - the thinner the slices the faster the drying- close up box, and leave alone- in 2 days or so, look at them, pick them up, if they are bendy- they still have moisture- they have to be cracker dry- is the way i always hear folks talk about them-

If the paper towels are full of water- shake off dessicant, lay down new paper, recover with more desicant, and return shrooms- (Depending on how much shrooms you are drying, you may need to add more dessicant- if old dess is solid, crack up and mix with new)

-A temple Priest once dried 100 grms wet on a cup of dessicant in 4days with one paper change- Good luck -

slicing them wouldnt be the best thing, ive read many places that the more surface area = more oxidation = lower potency

ok, so back to the dehydrator idea, I read on the drying section of this website that it's the best way to dry, if temp's are kept real low and they dry slowly, do you think they may not lose any potency?

i think even if the temps were warm and they were dried not real slowly, you wouldn't physically be able to notice the difference while you were trippin.. i've made tea and jello plenty of times with 'em (yes i boil them) and i have never been able to notice a marked decrease in potency.

lemming yes jello is my new thing.. it tastes better than most stuff and doesn't fuck with my stomach as much as other stuff (blending in orange juice for instance)
