dry casing: spray or no?

i have a two jar 50/50 (with chalk instead of oyster shell and lime) casing going right now. it's started to dry out a little. i had the humidity at 99% and i tried cracking the lid on my rubbermaid a little (perlite humidified) to lower the humidity a little. i think i let it get too dry, cause now the casing is getting just a little bit lighter brown around the edges and is pulling away from the edges of the tray just a little. the past couple of days i've been misting the sides every time i fan and keeping the lid closed to keep humidity high. should i spray the casing directly or wait until i (hopefully) finally get a flush? also, the casing hasn't appeared to do anything for 4 or 5 days now. could this be because it's too dry, do i have some other problem, or is this the normal pause the ryche hawk talks about in his 50/50 casing tek where the mycelium nicely colonizes then pauses and then pins and fruits?

I had the same problem with the 50/50+ tek. My casing began to dry out rather quickly, and I have not seen any growth in 3 weeks. I sprayed the entire casing till it was moist and covered the tray with foil yesterday, so I will be waiting to see what happens. Has anybody else had problems with the 50/50 tek drying out.

What substrate are you using? How thick is your casing layer? As long as you keep the casing layer moist and at the right temp. you should be fine. How long ago did you case? You can always mist very lightly to keep things moist. Just don't over do it.

for the cakes i used a BRF and verm combo. The casing layer was about an inch or less thick, and i have misted it occationally just to keep it moist, and still nothing after 3 weeks.

i'm also using regular BRF/verm PF style jars, one sliced and the other crumbled to make up the substrate layer. my casing layer is 1/2 inch thick or so. but i just got back to my place, and I've got pins!! i cased 11 days ago! am i right that i shouldn't mist now that i've got pins and it's not super dry?

I have seen trays of the 50/50 tek get dry simply from the heat of a small aqurium light. Just lightly spray untill the pins pop.

Once you harvest your first flush, lightly mist your casing twice daily until you see more pins developing.
