Im building a terarium and would like to order a cool mist humidifier but i just want to make sure i get one that actually mists and doesnt just fan moist air out the top. Is there a particularly popular one among mushroom growers that works well?

Yeh im not sure of names or anything though... but ones that have a spinning disk and not a fan.. theres a nice section on it in the grow/find section.. then maintaining humidity.

Is there a difference between the mist and moist air? They are both moist air correct? (I only ask because the MMGG tek says that you dont want misty aire in your terrium (too much water). Hence moist air should work best. If im incorrect, please let me know so that I can change my procedure.

Moist air humidifiers suck ass.. thats the kind i have and it has trouble maintainting 88% humidity in 2 terrariums. The Kaz or vicks cool mist humidifiers do a very good job and are good at keeping the humidity good in 2 terrariums. I only have to stumble upon one.. I havent yet.

I read something from workman that made me slap my forehead. It explained every problem I've had with coolmist setups. There's a temperature differential between the water reservoir outside the terrarium, and the inside of the terrarium where respiring mycelium reside [the heat capacity of substrate and water is different as well].
So basically, if you are piping atomized water into a chamber of higher temperature, the degree of humidification is compromised somewhat because of this difference. How much depends of many things, how tightly packed the terrarium is, overall temperature of the room, how tightly sealed the terrariums are, etc.
So what to do? A great idea that has made a world of difference is to install a small fishtank-type submersible heater on the bottom of the humidifier reservoir. My buddy's was 15 bucks. You need to adjust the dial to get sufficient but not excessive warming. It also takes a tiny bit of cutting on the humidifier to accomodate [yet another] power cord.
Anyway, it really does make a difference.

Here is the cool mist that I bought. I didn't buy it from this site but rather off ebay since it was only 18 bucks. I'm a beginner but this is the type I heard was the best: Propeller type

Yup , that'll work .
It's impeller type , not propeller .
Next time check second hand and thrift stores . I could get 13 cool mists for what you paid for one . I never pay more then $2 a piece

What do you guys mean the impeller type? Dont quite understand the difference between that and a fan.

That didnt help in defining the difference between a fan and an impeller on a cool mist humidifier though.

The impeller type has a spinning yoke that sits in the water and churns the water to create a mist.
The fan type pulls air through a filter that is sitting in the water. It works similar to a swamp cooler. RR

Thanks for the info keen_eyed, i took a trip to kmart and walmart and they both carry cool mist humidifiers but none of the old style ones. What would you suggest for an ultrasonic... right now ive only got a single cake chamber set up but as I get more advanced I want to set up a shelf system with cool mist/ ultrasonic, what kind of ultrasonic humidifier do u guys recomend (price vs quality) or does it not really matter.
