hello. i was looking for the vicks humidifer at ebay.com. there are some humidifiers with all the three holes at the front open, e.g. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2305159602, and others with only one hole opne, e.g. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2304822362. when i asked the seller of one with one hole open he answered: "There is actually only one hole in the front. It has indentations as if there were three. I guess it the way they designed it. It is the V400 model." could someone explain?

There are some different models, just search www.google.com for the model, etc. I suggest you just get one at a local store, it will ender up being cheaper, if not the same price with the shipping you will have to pay on ebay.

@d1giphux i live in germany. there is no internet-site with the v400 that ships to germany. drugstore.com has it for 22 $ and at ebay there are some from 0,99 $ to 15 $... why then should not everybody buy this at ebay?
there are diffent models of the v400? then, whats the best for my purpose, one or three holes? for the tube i wanted to attach the one-hole-model would be best, cause otherwise i would have to cover the other 2 holes... are there any more differences between the models?

When using a Cool Mist Humidifier for gas exchange and RH purposes do you just leave it running 24/7 or do you put it on a timer? I got a big tuppeware with 3 smaller tuppewares filled with colonized poo and I am wondering if fanning is going to be enough air exchange... am I going to need to use a cool mist humidifier?

Three holes, its what my friend uses. Just cover it the holes up. Try using strong duct tape, or seal a piece of plastic over it. Below is an example. It doesn't really give a good view of the "three holes", but you get the idea. Drill another hole, and have a tube of some kind leading out.

Cool mists dont provice that much air exchange. Running it 24/7 would lead to waay to much humidity.

My point was that it doesnt matter The hole is covered up with duct tape anyways. Regardless, a new hole will have to be drilled anyways for the tube to properly fit.

On the contrary. I have one setup and it only gets the humidity to about 80% running 24/7. I added an aquarium heater to the reservoir that the cool mist drinks from and that gets the rH anywhere I want (80-100) depending on what temp I set the aquarium heater to. I have it set to about 78 degrees and get an rh of about 90% running 24/7. I have found that this provides more than enough air exchange and humidity for 2 large terrariums.

why? I have a large tube (diameter 10 cm) that would fit over the middle hole... or is there another reason to drill another hole?

There are a few reasons for drilling your own holes.
1. I think the hole in the unit is too big. If you drill the holes yourself you know that the holes are getting the max humidity they can.
2. Also, with your own holes you can have 2-3 terrariums going on the same humidifier as opposed to your gian tube going into just one.
3. Its hard to get a tight fit with a giant tube over the center hole. Duct tape can work if used in excessive amounts, but this is a huge pain.
Drill your own holes, it only takes 5 minutes, and it will be much easier in the long run.
