Opium with alcohol?

A buddy of mine, claims his friend went to a country (he didn't say which one) and got an alcoholic drink with opium in it. I think I'm gonna call bullshit...but does such a thing actually exist? And if it does what are the effects? Thanks.

It's real, it's called Laudanum. I don't know of any countries in which it's legal, but there is certainly a common practice of injecting heroin users using heroin dissolved in an alcoholic spirit to ease withdrawal symptoms.

Wow thats cool. Apparently it's legal in Amsterdam..too bad I can't get any, he's a friend of a friend so he won't sell some to some random person he doesn't know :frown:

The thing about Laudanum is it can be made with any part of poppy straw. Obviously adding straight opium would increase the alkaline content drastically but one advantage of Laudanum is that it can be made with all parts especially if you let it sit long enough.

I would, but as I said my friend is really anti-drug for understandable reasons, so he probably wouldn't get it for me if I asked, and IMO I'd be rude for asking anyhow. Plus, I don't think this guy is selling any to anyone.

And opiates can be alright if you know that it's addicting, and stay far away from regular use, which isn't a problem for me cause I couldn't get a hold of any on a regular basis if I tried.
