Nah it's black and rather gooey, with the very distinctive floral aroma, but no one seems to be high after smoking it, which is weird, so I'm figuring that something is being done wrong.

Most of the shit that people sell is fake anyway.
There are tons of ethno resins out there that people like to sell as "opium".

Does it have a very strong and bitter taste to it?
I can tell real opium apart just from the taste. Most opiates have a distinct taste to them.
There are a lot of other resins that may look the same and have a flower like smell to them, that are sold on ethno sites.

Just add a little baking soda and a few drops of water, heat it up till it all clumps together and put it in a glass tube with a brillo pad for a screen. Thats how you smoke crack. We are talking about smoking crack, right?

use some ash in a pipe and throw a piece of opium on top, and hit the flame above the piece of opium and slowly make it bubble and hit it slow..
I have had some good opium, I have melted it in a spoon of water until it turned to liquid and snorted the solution up my nose...I got high as fuck! It was awesome, except it irritated my stomach.
