i've been climbing my basement for the past hour,haha...

me and some fiends built a hell of a climbing wall in the last house i lived in.....

here,i just have random holds in stubs,it's a fun climb,haha....

Damn, I crossed the PCT several times while driving on my road trip. We should have hooked up. I would have done some hiking on it.

Unfortunately what with work and school I wouldn't be able to hike the whole AT, but if you want to hike some of the VA part, that's not too far from me, and I could definitely take a week or two off to do some of that with you if you're interested.

have you seen the aluminum can camp stove?

it's cheaper than a whisperlight and has no moving
parts to break or fail...

yeah I've seen them. Certainly lighter..and simpler.. but it takes 3 or 4 times longer to cook or boil stuff or so I hear. Besides I already got the whisperlite and its PIMP.

I think that's the single coolest piece of gadgetry ever!

if WA state is in your plans...

the "Wonderland Trail" is 90 miles, encircles Mt Rainier, and the coolest part, the day before you start, you drive around the mountain and drop off food supplies at "cache-boxes" (they're like lockers at 4 of the Ranger stations, located right on the trail. This keeps the load you carry, substantially reduced.

10-12 days to circumnavigate the mountain.

great views.

if you don't want to get wet during the rainy season (the trail passes thru some rainforest on the northwest flank of the mountain) go 15 Jul-15 Sep.

the four things that make or break a backpack trip...
1. your physical condition
2. how well you sleep
3. how well you eat
4. the weight of your pack

all else is gravy

That looks like an awesome trail!!
I'm definitely going to have to go there if I make it up to the NW

Here's my gear



1. Pack (5,500 ci), Sleeping Pad, Tarp
2. Repair Kit/Survival Kit (Needle, Thread, Duct Tape, Safety Pins, Emergency Blanket, Super Glue, Waterproof Matches, Magnesium Firestarter, Alum Foil, Fish Hooks, Fishing Line, Steel Wire, Small Knife, etc)
3. Flashlight
4. Bag of Baby Wipes (essential..)
5. Headlamp
6. Medicinal Plants and Herbs Book, Journal, Pens
7. Water Filter
8. Sleeping Bag
9. Pots & Cookware
10. First Aid Kit
11. Fuel Bottle
12. Waterproof Sack filled with clothes
13. Tent (way too big for my pack plus all the other stuff..)
14. Toothbrush, Bio Soap, misc toiletries and one sack filled with 250 feet parachute cord
15. Stove


I need a smaller/lighter tent.. but otherwise I think my gear probably weighs around 35-40 lbs without food (haven't weighed it). I could cut it down 5 or 10 lbs probably.
