London: Man shot by armed police on Tube
    #4437011 - 07/22/05 04:22 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4706787.stm

Quote:

A man has been shot at Stockwell Tube station by armed police officers.
Passenger Mark Whitby told BBC News he had seen an Asian man shot five times by "plain-clothes police officers" with a handgun.

Passengers were evacuated from the Northern Line station in south London. Ambulances including an air ambulance have been sent to the scene. Police have cordoned off surrounding streets.

Police are hunting four would-be bombers after Thursday's London blasts.

Services on the Victoria and Northern lines have been suspended following a request by the police, London Underground said.

The bombers fled after detonators went off, causing small blasts, but failed to detonate the bombs themselves.

Mr Whitby, told BBC News: "I was sitting on the train reading my paper.

"I heard a load of noise, people saying, 'Get out, get down'!

"I saw an Asian guy run onto the train hotly pursued by three plain-clothes police officers.

"One of them was carrying a black handgun - it looked like an automatic - they pushed him to the floor, bundled on top of him and unloaded five shots into him.

"I saw the gun being fired five times into the guy - he's dead."

Passenger Briony Coetsee said: "We were on the Tube and then we suddenly heard someone say, 'Get out, get out' and then we heard gunshots."

it's interesting that, according to this report, they jumped him
and killed him.

if they were on top of him, wasn't he under enough control to
apprehend him and ship him out to gitmo.

wonder if he was still strapped.

Nah, he still could have transformed into a hideous terrorist cyclops and eaten them all alive, and that wouldn't have looked too good for the London fuzz.

I wonder if this is bullshit.

I can't see a cop firing at a pile of cops and one criminal. Seems like you would have to be real careful not to shoot one of your buddies.

Two guys will have held him down so he couldn't detonate the suspected bomb while the third emptied the gun into his head. You don't shoot to the body if there are explosives involved.

The police have claimed that they believed this man to be a terrorist, armed with home made explosives, strapped to his body. So why then, did two of them leap on him and pin him to the ground, and how was it necessary for them to then shoot him repeatedly, 5 times, at point blank range, in the head? The only reason they had to suspect this man was because he was running away from the police, and because "he looked suspicious", it still hasn't been revealed if this man was indeed, carrying any explosives, although it's highly unlikely that he was because they would have told us by now, they have mentioned on the news they believe he is linked to the bombers, if that was the fucking case, they would have arrested him for questioning, as oppose to destroying any possible evidence they might have been able to obtain. Not that I personally believe he was linked, it's just a bullshit excuse they have to make for murdering an innocent man. Eye wtinesses claimed to have seen this man jumping over ticket barriers before, which would explain why this man was running away from the police after them telling him to stop what he was doing. Which all he was doing, was boarding the tube. This whole thing fucking stinks.

Maybe it's a new crackdown on fare dodging?

So why then, did two of them leap on him and pin him to the ground

Perhaps so he couldn't "detonate" whatever they thought he had?

and how was it necessary for them to then shoot him repeatedly, 5 times, at point blank range, in the head?

Probably using a low velocity handgun to minimise the chance of killing any bystanders, hence the number of shots needed. Or the cop could just have been excited and out of control.

he's an idiot to be jump the gate then run from the police into a train.

innocent or not, at the time bombs were being found / stopped from detonating and he was stupid enough to ignore that.

I thought they'd said they didn't find anything on him. The only reason he was being followed was as the house he came out of was under observation, not that they were specifically waiting for him. So now they don't know who he was or if he had any involvement with anything. Could have had any number of reasons to run.. a criminal, carrying substances, illegal immigrant etc etc. Still, it had the effect of scaring the public and fear is good for controlling the sheep..

Did they? I haven't checked the news in a while. I am appalled. They've murdered an innocent man. :frown: What will be done about this? Nothing, because the police are above the law. The world is a mess, when will people wake up? Suppose the authorities have to make it look like they're doing something, that terrorism can be controlled. It would not surprise me if they used that man as a pawn, saw that he looked arabic and a bit suspicious, so snatched the opportunity to act the heroes. And as you aptly put, keep the sheep believing that they should carry on as normal, going to work - gotta keep those cogs turning. This has made me so fucking angry.

1 innocent man or 5,000 innocent men women and children?

What are the police going to do, crack down?

Quite the quandary. Loss of life nonetheless :frown:

You should realy get your facts straight before making such comments

Quoted from BBC News

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4706787.stm

The man was under police observation because he had emerged from a house that was being watched following Thursday's attacks, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.

He was followed by surveillance officers to Stockwell station, where his clothing and behaviour added to their suspicions, he added.

Police warned the man, who ran on to the station platform. Witnesses said the officers opened fire as he jumped on to a train.

Another passenger on the train, Anthony Larkin, told BBC News the man appeared to be wearing a "bomb belt with wires coming out".

Londoner Dan Copeland was in the carriage in which the man was shot.

He told BBC News: "We were sitting for a few minutes on the platform, then we heard shouting from the concourse between the two platforms.

"Then the man burst in through the door to my right and grabbed hold of the pole and a person by the glass partition near the door, diagonally opposite me."

I think I would have shot the guy if I was a cop.

It's a lot easier to shoot first and ask questions later, because then you can make up any answers you want.

It's pretty easy to not shoot, and let 30 people get blowed up as well.

Lots of easy answers.

Easy, easy, easy.

What a load of fucking bullshit.

If the police had thought that man had explosives strapped to him they would not have jumped on him, but they did, and they didn't  even check to see if he had any on him, which they quite easily could of done considering they had him pinned down, they just shot him dead straight away. Anpther thing was the police weren't in uniform, so no wonder the poor man was terrified and tried running away, he probably thought he was going to get mugged.
