cakes still good after contamination?
    #439563 - 10/28/01 06:14 PM (23 years, 3 months ago)

Well my munkiez unkle has been colonizng 12 jars and they all were boue 85 percent done in 11 days and well, he found 6 of them to have green and black dots and mold near the tope (he didnt wipe the mouth well to get rid of excess substrate that can act as a wick) and well he decided to pick out the mold and all of the areas surrounding it and throw it all in a ziplock bag and crumble it to marble sized peices and cut a whole in the bag and duct tape coffee filters on the outside and inside...will this bag recolonize and be ok to use in a casing? he thinks he got the mold out before it could spread ...it had just shown up last night and he did this today...please help all, thanks!

Cut out a MUCH larger area than the mold you can actually see. You should have sprayed 9:1 water/h2o2 solution on it to prevent the mold spores from germinating. Generally, when you see the mold growing, it's most likely too late to save it. But you might as well grow it out anyway, it can't hurt.
