ick. think of all the vermiculite and shit in there. There are some articles about tripping on mycellium or such but I dont think eating a cake would be worth anything except sickness. I sure as hell wouldn't do it

Just because it is called cake doesn't mean you should eat it.
I don't think it is worth it. Seems like it would taste really bad.

It's made from mica heated to very high temperatures. This causes it to expand and hence makes it useful for gardening.

na. i use the 9er tek using only cooked rice. so it would actually be a bit on the healthy side, assuming there are no contaminants(which there aren't). just a wild idea. i cased the victim in a small baby bread pan and topped w/ 5 yr. old cow manure that i found that still grows really good. i will wait for quality golden teachers to pop up. besides. already ate half the cake and i'd say it gave me a really small mild head change. not worth it. grow...yes. eat...no! so i guess i answered my own question for ya. DO NOT REPEAT. I REPEAT. DO NOT REPEAT.

I often browse the fungi-culitvation forum in my home land (Russia). Well, i've seen a couple of reports on eating the cakes - but those were rice grain + water cakes, w/o vermiculite. One guy just sacrificed a fully colonized cake with no signs of a trip. Another smart ass are a partly contaminate cake (with some mold) - just to expreriment. Well, he survived and reported it's no risk -> experienced growers said he's was lucky to eat a safe kind of mold. You never know which one is deadly poisonous.Besides, mold contain harmful substances, which tend to accumulate in a human body.

appreciate the warnings and the info. like i said before i cased the cake in a bread pan and the mycelia is alread poking up through the 1/2 inch layer of cow shit. looked at the bottom when i flipped it over and the many broken pieces on the bottom layer connected as one big clump of mycelia. it looks SO good. cant wait till it shrooms. do i just need to wait, or is there certain measures i need to meet to produce fruiting. this is my first grow, by the way. one casing and one cake.
