Karo, Some help needed.

OK so I went to buy some Karo and I found some it had a green label I think it's the right kind, any one know what the ingredients should be? Also I went and bought some zip lock containers some little ones they look cool Like little cups lol, any way you think they will work? Or should I buy bigger containers? ONE more thing..... how much water to Karo? also how can I measure WITHOUT any thing to measure?

is the green label the dark karo? people usually use the clear karo so they can spot contams easier but the dark will work. hoow do you plan on sterilizing your LC with plastic containers, i know its possible but what do you have in mind? a rough estimate to go off of is a half pint jar about half full of water with 2 tsp of karo.

oh and the Karo looks dark I guess. I was thinking corn syrup it was white.

well 4 oz. is 1/4 of a pint so it would need to be almost all the way full.


here is how i do LC's nd have had 100% success rate with this method and its so damn eaasy and you should already have all the equipment to do it.

this is how i do it. if you have any questions just ask. take a pf style jar (one with holes in it). put 2 tsp. of karo in it. boil about 130 cc's of water (allow for the evaporation). once the water is boiling pour it into the jar with the karo in it and place a layer of saran wrap on it real quick(your going to need to have 3 sheets already cut),the heat will kill any initial bacteria, screw the lid on real quick and then place the next two layers of saran wrap on it. place in the fridge to cool down. once cool lift the first layer of saran wrap and inoculate trought the first 2 layers of saran wrap with 1cc of solution then place the third layer back on. and place in incubator. i dont shake mine at first so i can see the pretty little chunks (once you see a good size cotton ball your ready to go). once ready to inoculate take syringe with needle suck up some of the karo mix shot back into jar as fast as you can to break up the mycelium. by doing karo you will help reduce the chance of contams because you will skip the amount of time it takes to germinate the spores. 100% succees to date. and it turns 1cc into 100cc's so much better in so many ways if you have any questions of any sort i will answer to the best of my abilities.

either karo works, if its the clear/slightly yellow tint is better for contam reasons

cool sounds great. sux I already went and bought these ziplocks but I will be VERY sure to do that as soon as I am done with one of my cakes I'll have plenty of them left. I have 6, 1 pint jars

You might add a marble or couple pieces of broken glass to your LC to help break up the mycelium.

what kinda of store is wally world?

Im in Aust and i was lookin for some corn syrup and dextrose today in the supermarket but had no luck, what type of stores would it most likely be found in?

I found dextrose in a store that sold brewing supplies for beer/wine making... got a very cheap bag of light malt powder too. Karo/corn syrup should be in any decent supermarket, some stores have it with the regular maple syrups and molasses while some might have it in the baking section.
Don't be afraid to ask for it at the store if you can't find it. Just say you need it for your wife/mum if anyone asks why if you are worried.
Is corn syrup as popular outside the usa? It's the main ingredient in almost every goddamn thing made here! :mad2: What happened to sugar! jeesh!
