contams in standing water in perlite?
    #435209 - 10/24/01 11:06 AM (23 years, 1 month ago)

i recently got all my cakes contaminated while using the perlite humidification method, and after discarding them, just to be thorough, threw out the perlite as well.

that's when i discovered A LOT of black-green gunk in the bottom of the terrarium which i believe probably caused the contamination of the cakes.

i didn't use any bleach or hydrogen peroxide, and i assume the chlorine in the water (i used tap water for just that reason) just dissipated, leaving the standing water vulnerable to infection.

my question is this: what is the best method for keeping the water below the perlite sterile? bleach? h202? if i'm not mistaken, h202 eventually turns to water, so should i regularly add more?

Yeah, use the peroxide. Also, try to avoid standing pools of water, wet perlite is enough.

Lol- sure you remembered to take out the fish before you poured in the perlite?
