strange white flower/fungus

Out hiking (and tripping) today, we found a strange organism that I've run across before. It's always confounded me. It looks like a small flower, except it's completely white all over. It has no root structure, and it appears to be growing out of the ground like a fungus. I found it growing on mossy stumps. Although it looks like it's growing like a fungus, it has sexual reproductive organs (pistil and stamen), so it's definitely not sporulating. I'm fairly sure it's not a fungus because it doesn't reproduce through spores, but I don't think it could be a flower because it doesn't have roots or any green on it anywhere, which means it's not using photosynthesis. Am I wrong about fungi only reproducing with spores? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most ferns also reproduce by spores.

It sounds to me like you found Indian Pipes (Monotropa uniflora).

During a hike on Mount Wachusett in Massachusetts recently I came across some completely white flowers.  They looked as if they were completely deprived of sunlight.
