The first pins

My monkeys uncle just got his first two pins off of a BRF cake yesterday...he is overjoyed but also concerned. The cake that pinned was the newest cake he put into the terrarium, it has been in there for around 2 weeks before any pinning happened. All the other cakes in the terrarium 5 to be exact are each at least 2 months old and have been in the terrarium for around 3 1/2 - 4 weeks with no pinning at all. The mycellium is white on all cakes and on the older cakes the mycellium is creeping up on top of the dry verm layer on tops of the cakes (its white and not grey, i'm hoping its not cobweb) Could these cakes at this point be to old to pin or should he let them sit for another month and wait and see what happens

my recommendations: -
put the cakes back in there jars, and put the jars in a big ziplock bag (to keep out any nasties), then cold-shock them in the fridge overnight.
after this, place the cakes back in the terrarium, DIRECTLY on the perlite. no jar lids or anything. then wait about a week. this combination got my EQ cakes to pin like there's no tomorrow :)

Dunk em DrAbe!!!!!!!! If they are that old and no pins submerse the reluctant cakes in some spring water for 12 hours.... then remove and dab ther excess water off of them with a paper towel and replace in the terrarium.. I`ve had cakes that halted like that and dunking made them fruit like crazy. Good luck

dunk and cold shock at teh same time! boil some water to sterilize it and put it in a big container with a lid and let it cool off. now put it in teh fridge and get the water nice and cool/cold. put your cakes in there, close the top again and back in the fridge it goes for 10 hours or so. you should be pretty happy and see good growth and pins in a week.

He actually did dunk and cold shock the cakes last week. This is actually the second time dunking these reluctant cakes. Maybe he should just say fuck it and crush them up into a casing but seeing how this is the first attempt ever at this he just wanted some success starting with cakes.
