casing pinning problem
    #1056637 - 11/15/02 08:29 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

"i put 2 fully colonized half pint cakes in my terrarium a week and a half ago (about 11 days). they didn't pin after 5 days so i dunked them for 10 hours. they still didn't pin so two days later i cased them with vermiculite, so then on the 9th day nothing happened, on the 10enth i put the casing in the fridge for 6 hours, then all of today, still nothing is happening. in the terrarium i've been changing the temperature from 80 down to 70 across a couple of days trying to get them to do thier thing. humidity is real high i believe.
any extra tips?"

Are you fanning or exchanging the air in the terrarium? I believe a drop in Co2 levels is another trigger to initiate pinning on casings.

Freak out baby, the bee is coming.

I had almost the same problem from a bulk run. If your casing is fully colonized, and i know im kinda going against the norm, i'd put it back in the incubator. I had a bulk run that wouldnt pin for shit, then i put it back in the incubator and it had knots in a few days. Basically, what i think was the problem, is that it wasnt totally colonized even though it looked like it on the outside. (kinda like cakes.) This is my opinion only. And is only an opinion from my direct experience. Take it with a grain of salt.
