casing without a terrarium?
    #311181 - 05/07/01 07:51 AM (23 years, 9 months ago)

is it possible to do casings (i've never tried...) without a terrarium? instead, letting a plastic tub be the housing for the casing with a lid using perlite?

will that work through the whole cycle of germination>>>colonization>>>fruiting? not sure if this way would provide enough humidity.

if this is possible, what kind of casing would you recommend? thanks and peace.

My friend uses rubbermaid containers with a lid filled with some wet perlite for all her growing. She contends that it does give good humidity and even uses non-cased substrates in them that fruit nicely( plain wheat straw). A good basic casing of a thin layer of vermiculite is all that is needed, but the 50/50 casing tek also works well with a little more added nutrients. Just make sure to check the ph of the 50/50 because it tends to get contaminated quicker than plain vermiculite.

Its two in the morning......Do you know where your paperbag and flashlight are?
