what the hell do you mean by birth it? my friend is trying to avoid overlay, should he let it sit in the terranium so pinning starts, or repatch so there is no overlay?

initiate pinning [Re: MickyFinn]

That thing is definitely ready to pin. Put it in the fridge for 12 hours.. put it in your terrarium and keep the O2 exchange high.
other recommendations---
photography accomplishes the transferral of information best when great care is taken when composing the shot. Look at your picture of the casing pan. Do we get any valuable info from seeing so much of your carpet surrounding the pan? This pic would be more expressive if you would have gotten the camera closer to the pan so it pretty much filled the frame... Sure, it's a rectangular pan and a square picture. Just zoom in until the left and right edges of the pan reach the sides of your picture frame.
Same advice goes for the picture of the chick. Crop all that black space off above her head and make the rest of the pic a little bigger.
I'm not criticizing your efforts here. Your pic is way better than a fair number of those posted here. It's definitely good enough for us to tell what's going on. Just wanted to throw some advice your way.

hey di, im always up for some friendly critiquing, here is an answer to the questions you didnt ask me. the casing pic was shot way in a hurry with not the intent to have anything pretty around, just trying to get a point across, the casing couldnt be shot any better than that because you get what you pay for a 99 dollar digi can only do so much for you lol,
secondly, the pic of the chick, yeah its a bad crop, i didnt want the chick to the right of it in, and the dude is a good contrast to the subject. the top right hand corner has lights in it which are also kinda forming a natural border, plus its distracting so your eye is drawn to that, along with the chick, and the funny looking dude. thanks again though for your comments, it makes us all better in the end (sorry this post has nothing to do with the orignal post)
so, i should cold shock it? ive never done it and heard it wasnt necessary, the terranium is at about 72, is that not cool enough to intiate pinning? 12 hours in the fridge is the solution? thanks again

do something. patch it or cold shock it. I'd probably cold shock if you can turn the frige high enough.

Hey man, I was in the same situation 3 days ago. I can see what I need to see in the pic you made, even though its not the best, nice eyes on tha lady though
Ok, just leave it in the terrarium at 68-72 and youll get it to pin this way, cuz they think its getting cold and they better get thier shit together and grow some shrooms or it'll be the end of thier exsistance
Hope that helps, you will se pins in 4-5 days at most. Let me know.

try a more dramatic reduction... [Re: MickyFinn]

mickey-
dropping from 72 to 68 is a pretty subtle change. try heating it up to 80. then if you dont see pins, try dropping it down to 72 or 68 overnight..
I put my whole terrarium in the fridge (probably 40-or-so degrees) for 12 hrs and I now have 19 pins or so on my 1/2 cake casing. my regular terrarium temp is 85 degrees.
hope this helps.

"my regular terrarium temp is 85 degrees."
Thats too fricken hot.
73 to 75 is the optimal temps.
Hope that 85 was a typo.
