I've done my time -- I hope-- I've spent a couple of hours reading this site and have not found my answer. Hoping somebody out there will have a quick answer. I haven't picked mushrooms in 20 yrs. Today driving through this tropical storm here in Florida, the sun came out as I was driving a friend home and on a neighbor's yard were several large mushrooms. I started thinking -- it's hot -- its humid -- it rains a lot in Fl. My question is this- Do I have to go to the fields or can I just throw some straw in my landscaping or grass to get some going -- Is there a easy way?
No. Hunt east of the interstate, in cowfields. Due to all the rain that has fallen, higher elevations the better. What you most likely saw was Chlorophyllum molybdites, they are all over here after heavy rain. infact theres a couple, 10 feet from my front door. goodluck hunting.
*Edit-you could try to start your own outdoor patch, but you have to start the process indoors, so in essence, it's not an "easy" way. requiring more than 2 hours of reading. Check the outdoor logs some shroomerites have done in the past in the cultivation forum. The 'search post' button is priceless. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4266821#Post4266821
Thanks, Up this a.m. and still have them on my mind. Thanks for putting in the edit. I will check out the link. The sun is out and I am going to soope out fields e of 75. Yes, I realize I have to do a lot more reading. I used to hunt them in the Memphis, Tn area when I was younger and never even tested-- Guess I was really lucky. We only looked for the purple ring on the stem. Wish me luck! I appreciate your reply.
