Of what importance is this question to S&P.

well, i'd say it changes the whole story of the cruxifiction a little bit... and for Christians this may affect how they veiw the savior. from huge sacrifice, to pathetic misfortune....
it would take away some of the compassion felt for Jesus. in my eyes.
now, blood loss...that means he REALLY fuckin suffered!!! and makes me actually feel saddened.

Wow, I thought I could not lose any further respect for the practice of Christianity, but this thread has changed my mind.

Upon further consideration, my response was too curt.
What I meant to say was: I find it difficult to believe that devout followers who see Jesus as someone who died for their sins, and redeemed mankind, would respond by altering their beliefs.
If their love for and faith in their savior is that shallow and easily influenced by modern medical speculation about the actual cause of his physical death, then the practice of Christianity is even more compromised and off-track from the original teachings of Jesus Christ than I had previously believed.

ha ha maybe he ate some wild drugs, having him leave the body at will, so that he actually did not die before the day after as he regained full consciousness, but found his "vessel" no longer capable of regenerating itself, in a proper fashion, told his disciples, and left his body to rot, as he ventured in/back to the heavens as 'foretold'.. (?) :P

Paralysis of the musculature that enables breathing is far far more horrible than bleeding out, so what are you attempting to communicate? Bishop's book The Day Christ Died is a classic that goes into considerable detail about this. So in YOUR eyes blood loss elicits compassion, but shock, multiple lacerations, contusions and punctures, a 40 lash beating with a Roman flagrum (even if the lead tips were dumbell-shaped, not barbed) followed by crucifixion which usually kills by asphyxiation DOESN'T elicit compassion.
It is clear (to me at least) that Who and What was embodied in the entire life of Jesus has utterly and completely escaped your comprehension. Look up Lawrence Kohlberg.

Well, regardless of the eventual cause of death, the Roman practice of crucifixion was incredibly cruel and painful. I feel sorry for anybody that had to endure that...

Do you think Jesus looked at his captures with compasion, malis, pasivity, or anger?

I believe Jesus looked at the entire drama - including His plight with "unbearable compassion," in the midst of unbearable pain.

How is it unbearable pain if Jesus was still conscious throughout most of it?
Nevertheless, I wouldn't consider Jesus's torture that bad; there's been way more painful/ extended/ fucked-up tortures throughout history than Jesus's, especially those perpetrated by his followers.
Nevertheless, if he existed, only Jesus knows how he looked at his whole drama. Maybe he was too out of from all the whipping and blood loss to even know what was happening by the end anyway.

Though I'm not Christian, I find that I learn more lessons from his life than his death. so... doesn't really matter to me.

Good accessment. Only he would know. We are just speculating based on what we would want him to be.

umm.....didnt one of the guards stab him in the side with a spear?
I don't think that he could have lost enuf blood from just the beating, to kill him.
