I dont understand why Stamets puts that in his book when he later demonstrates findings about Liberty Caps that give the highest Psilocybin levels ever found in any mushroom. It measures - if i remember - the total of Psilocybin, psilocin and baeocystin and not any other present alkaloids which i think is a little misleading.
There is no way that Cubensis and Psilo.Cyanescens have similar potencies...

I hate that chart, its very inaccurate in my opinion. Obviously Ps. cyanescen is more potent than cubensis, and I can gurantee you that Ps. weilii is also much more potent than cubensis.

does anyone want to put the these in the correct order by honest opinion starting with the most potent to least potent?
this would be a very interstering comparison.
also maybe someone could throw the panelaous species in there too....any takers?

Hi,

To make that chart right, you would have to extract hundreds of exemplar of every species. I don't think that many here in the Shroomery have the skills + chemicals + aparates to make exact extractions to give a quantitative result. Probably the above chart was done without making much extractions, therefore it isn't right. There are always exemplars which contain very high amounts of psilocybin/psilocin, but we should be more interested in the average value. There is also a dependence on the growth stage of the mushroom. More often, young specimens have higher concentration of alcaloids than the elder. Not only the Panaeolus are missing, but also some mexican Psilocybes, with known contents like the Psi. semperviva, having (0.6 % psilocybin, 0.1 % psilocin, Hofmann)

Stamets uses maxima of Psilocybin, etc levels, bu under specific headings for different mushroom strains, gives different figures... Id love someone to analyse some of these Australian native species, as Id love to see how they compare with American ones, but I just dont think its going to ever happen :-(

Ummm....like....well....knowing the content is all good and all....but like in the context in which you speak of "potentcy"....one would have to take into consideration....ummm....that every human bieng has different chemical variations and metabolisms....thus....ummm....the amounts for intoxication are different....then take into account the species....non refrensed alkaloid makeup....anyone who has said they have overdosed on mushrooms can only be 1 of 2 things:

1.) Allergic to psilocyine, psilocin, baeocystine, and/or inidentified content

2.) Full of shit...you can not clinically overdose on psilocybine or psilocin...it is a physiological response by one whos' mind was not developed or evolved enough to handle such experiences

So...ummm...it is kinda nice to have a refrense chart to go by....but why the big deal?

Is Paul Stamets: "Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World" the only book you have?

Where did anyone mention overdosing on these alkaloids?? The point that was being made is that if a person was to bioassay Ps.Cyanescens and Ps.Cubensis - no matter their relative tolerance to Psilocybin, etc, - they would not find two species that are even comparable in potency - therefore, this chart is not accurate - whether it comes from Stamets or not...

Exactly blue meanie, I know them cyans are much more potent that a cubie, and even though not many have eaten them, I can assure you weilii is NOT weaker than a cube, its up there beside cyans.

cyans are the most potent of the psylocybe trust me pacific northwest gos crazy every fall i pick in seattle always find them only have to eat a minor amount alot less then cubies and cyans will bring you places cubies have only dreamt about

trying to rate different mushrooms like that is like trying yo rate different really cool bands. You can't say that Sector 9 is better than the disco biscuits. There both really good, but for different reasons, and in different ways

A general potency is very difficult to measure.. different substrains, generations, and fruitbodies all produce different potencies..
