Do you agree no spiritual advancement has broken thru here since you've been a regular, Swami?

Note to audience: See how WS believes no one has any personal power and that the evil Swami has shut down thousands of posters over a six-year period? If that were true, then you should all worship me as a demi-god. However, I have no such power and actively seek to empower others.

spirituality=advancement or spiritual beliefs

anti spirituality=the decimation of spiritual ideas.

Spirituality has NOTHING to do with what you believe; it has to do with how you live your life.

Who is more spiritual: The priest who claims belief in Christ then steals from the church's coffers or the atheist who doesn't believe in God, but who would not even consider stealing a pen from his employer?

False beliefs help no one. Period. Garbage in -> garbage out. Making decisions based on erroneous information will almost always lead to wrong choices - and there is truckloads of false information posted here by well-meaning folks.

"Why do people attack me?"

Are you serious, you don't know why people attack you?  And you're what, 50 next month?

P.S. This is in no way a personal attack on Swami.

I know why they attack, but they never question their own motives. It is a robotic reflex. Automatics responses are NOT indicative of an aware mind, but of one fast asleep.

"I know why they attack"

Hmm, didn't you just ask why they attack?

Well, if you provoke and they attack it really doesn't matter what their reason is.  The provoking was the start of the attack, IMO.

When you were kids, did you often say to mom -

"Well he (she, it, the dog, the cat, the hamster) STARTED IT!!"

Look at your title, Swami. You have to admit you have the power of influence here. This subject has been discussed for months and you are playing 'who me?'

I am a nobody some thousand miles away. "I" am merely squiggles on a screen.

One with no center gives their power away. One with a center cannot be shaken so easily. Being centered is a cornerstone of spirituality. How can one claim to be powerless and uncentered; yet spiritual?

Is provoking a bad thing? Or are you comingling that with antagonizing? All changes come from provoking; from challenging the status quo.

The prohibitionists got angry because I challenged their world view not because I was abusive. End-of-story.

You say provoking, someone else might say antagonizing. When they say "hey quit antagonizing me" and you say "but I was only provoking" they might not appreciate the fine line...

There are nuggets of wisdom in many of my posts. Your inability to recognize them doesn't change that.

Please show JUST ONE example of the thousands where I hampered another's progress. I am truly interested.

You know what I find humorous is the view that some people have about spirituality compared to other's view. Most of the time when I read what Swami has to say it sounds like it is SO anchored in a confident, human spirituality that it makes me laugh when someone attacks Swami for not being spiritual. What's more spiritual than taking a stance which really looks at humanity?

Swami's more (in my eyes, hence a forum) the spiritual LEADER of this board, and not the other way around. Most people who preach about spirituality on this forum say very little of actual substance. Swami may speak down to earth but I'll be god damned if most of what he says isn't deep and enlightening as hell.

While I don't presume to speak for Swami, I for one would not make such a bold claim.

There very well may have been a great DEAL of spiritual advancement taking place in those who frequent these boards since Swam's been around.

Just because it's not your favorite flavor of Kool-aid doesn't mean it's not a refreshing fruity sugar-drink. You are prejudiced to view only the things you have decided to be 'spiritual' as, in fact, 'spiritual'. Confronted with such a beast in any form but a unicorn you scorn it.
"No, that's not spiritual. That's a rabbit, I see those every day. I WANT MY UNICORN!"

The wizard has many awe-inspiring indecipherable incantations and a great deal of flash and style; yet it is the scientist who actually can do something more than entertain with his craft.

Your beliefs may be filled with flash and style, but do they contain any true SUBSTANCE, or is it all merely a parlor trick? A sham?
If you strip away the shining facade, does the substance continue to exist? Does the substance exist seperate of the act, or is the act itself the substance. If you're holding an apple, you can wrap it in as much foil as you want -- certainly it'll shine more, but you're still holding an apple, and though that foil does make a great deal more shine..
it only makes the apple that more difficult to eat.

Even further, that shining ball of foil you bought with hopes of an apple at its core to eat -- you cannot even be sure there IS a meal at the center until you strip all the extranious glam away. You may have just bought a ball of magician's trickery and nothing more -- foil, the whole way through. You can't tell unless you strip it all away.

I think I digressed somewhere along the way. Anyone who reads anything I say probably saw that coming before I did, though. :\

You don't need an example to know yourself, guy. You are well aware of your actions and their consequences.

In other words folks, all we have here is yet another baseless accusation that the poster cannot back up. No wonder you perceive no progress when you are stuck in such a mindset.

That's a pretty bold claim since the rest of your post is in reply to a post directed at Swami.

My post was in responce to a post.

I don't recognize private conversations on a public board, sorry.  If it's a 1-on-1 spar with someone you're after, you can take it to PMs.  If not, expect to have jackasses like me throwing their two cents in wantonly.

You should take creative literature next year. Almost every high school in the country offers it!

I like the personal attack there -- insinuating I'm but a youngin'.  By the by, according to the rules of this site, no one under 18 is allowed.  Not that I've to worry, since it's been a while since I saw that age.
Which is a shame, too.  I'm almost old enough to start feeling bad about trying to pick up 18 year old chicks, and I'll be damned if that's going to be something hard to come to terms with!

Fortunately for you I do try to keep all my personal attacks safely tucked away in OTD.  This forum's about words and ideas, not the people behind such things -- I keep the zingers in a safe place where I know no one will take offense.

Quote:
I'd like to agree but that's just ridiculous.

Adversity makes strength but barriers don't.

If the adversity is inflexible it isn't adversity, it's a barrier.

I find that view to be incredibly narrow-minded -- at least as narrow-minded as you would paint the opposing view, and quite possibly a great deal moreso.
Spiritual growth does not always mean gluing more macaroni onto your plate, or using more gold spray paint.
It can as often mean stripping the paint and removing the decorations.

If I were to post something and recieve responses detailing to me the how's and why's of angelic intervention in my situation, or why the goblins are angry with me, or exactly which type of aliens are responsible for whatever I was discussing -- I would not be OFFENDED by such responses, though I may not agree with them.  If I'm reading things right, though, it seems you are offended by views expressed contrary to your own -- or at least contrary to what you deem to be 'spiritual'?  A bit further, would it be accurate to say that you take umbrage to the suggestion of disbelief?

Now, as this is a forum for the open discussion of beliefs, how would you presume to be the one to decide which beliefs -- or disbeliefs -- are valid to be discussed?  Is that not pride, your ego telling you that you know better than another?  Or perhaps the ego's fearful self-preservation -- often it acts similarly, as was demonstrated in that thread you mentioned, swami's thread about the PM he recieved in which a gentleman's ego caused him to attribute marijuana, not his sister's choices in life, for the mistakes she has amde.

I tweaked your nose just now;  I'll own up to that one.
Point is..
I'm not so proud as to claim that certain views should not be freely expressed here.  To do so would STIFLE spiritual growth.  All beliefs are valid -- for discussion.

How would you feel if I told you that you posting your beliefs was interfering with my spiritual growth?

Anyhow, the sin birds* are calling, the beer's long passed into mere memory, so I must be asleep.

*i hate those birds -- the ones that herald in the dawn.  though I don't exactly believe in any sort of 'sin', I found it an apt term for those noisy squawkers who let you know you've been up too late doing something you shouldn't have been.

ok, ok, i admit it.  the term's something I came up with walking back to my dorm room after my first acid trip, and I've been using it ever since.  some things stick

Swami has by far done the only thing spiritual to me on this board. Everyone else, while I agree it's fun, waxes philosophic. We talk about stuff that has NO relevance to anything. It's just fun to talk about. Swami actually gets down to the meat of PEOPLE. Confronting things like people lying to themselves, fear, agression, denial and many things that I PERSONALLY feel are the root of any and all spirituality.

But that's just me. Spirituality isn't drugs and visions to me, it's deep truths about people and Swami provides those generously.

And so that's my example of Swami furthering someone's spiritual beliefs. I could talk all day about universal oneness and central Buddhist beliefs but that's completely pointless because those beliefs are about experiencing for yourself. For the written word, Swami does a bang up job.
