The only way I see, would be if they were given everything they ever needed/wanted.

I think the only real reason could be fear.

Because I've done most drugs and I've been around druggies, and I've made my OWN choices. I've had bad hangovers, I've smoked tons of pot. And now I've made my OWN choices about drugs. And my reasons to me are really good now, because I made those reasons. I made the choices I follow now.

People that have never tried let someone else decide for them, or scare them.

It's kinda sad.

There's a whole lot more that goes into it, but this was the first thing that came to mind for me when I read this. My brother has never tried any drugs that he could not get from a drugstore, and the primary reason for this is fear, much of which was instilled upon him by government propoganda such as the dare program as well as school health classes.

It is sad.

Yeah i like what you said. You slightly misconstrued the direction i was headed however... How could a person not use drugs or alcohol and still be alive?

my mom is like that. well she smoked pot a few times in college, but she said she hates to not have control over her reality. shes level headed and all for drug legalization, she just doesn't like the way drugs and alcohol make her feel.

I have used drugs, but I don't drink and I only use other drugs rarely. I have no problems with them and they don't bother me, but I just don't really feel like doing them that often.

The only think I want to do often is E, and I still don't let myself do it often.

Lots of people don't, and thats fine, as long as they don't judge others that do. Myself, I don't do a lot of drugs and eschew alcohol. To tell the truth I'm usually sober when I post here...

I've used drugs to help me see there is more to reality than conventional thought. :wink:

You say rationalization, I say mind expansion. Call it what you will. I don't know what you you get from drugs, or if you even do any. I just know what I get from them, and the ability to rationalize well is usually not among those blessings. :grin:

See, with good drugs, rationality and convention go out the window as some of the thought patterns I am trying to bypass in attempt to broaden my awareness and amplify my perception. Works like magic for me. Hope you can get in on this sometime. It's really great.

Its still subjective. Some people take the existence of god as being part of conventional reality. Each person forms their own reality and if this reality is affected by drugs or alcohol who are you to tell them that their opinion is wrong? Reality doesnt have to entail sobreity.

i'm surprised to see such a comment. i believe it's innapropriate to call anyone's opinion 'wrong'. i too agree that drugs do not show reality, but i could not make such a judgement on the way anyone else feels.

i used to do way too much drugs years ago and now i only use occasionally.. like weed once in a couple months and other drugs like once a year or less and actually this sober living is quite ok. if you cant see how people can live without drugs maybe u should cut down a lil bit.
