the pink one can possibly be. The red one looks like an oriental.

nope, all orientals
note the extreme lobing and hairyness of the leaves.
also note the bush like nature of the flowering blants.
opium poppies stretch upwards as the flower.

The pictures taken from the informative angles are out of focus, so identification is problematic. It is not papaver somniferum. It doesn't appear to be papaver rhoeas, though one would need focused pictures, as well as a scale for size to ascertain that. It just might be bracteatum, which can invoke Morpheus to endow gentle dreams.

ah yes the leaves are more delicate on p. som compared to the dark green waxy hairy very serated leaves of the ones above.

i looked up oriental poppies.

judging from what i found, it looks like both of those are definitely Papaver orientale.

thanks.

they come back every year, so i began to wonder what they were.

this may not always hold true but oriental flowers have a pattern of 6 petals
opium (and others) have 4 main ones, sometimes some varieties also are filled with peoney type petals, but the 4 main petals are still present on the perimeter
