I have come across poppies growing wild at an old rail line site that was built by the chinese many moons ago. I have seen them year after year growing in the same little patch which makes me think they have seeded themselves year after year. Can anyone tell me if these are a somniferum strain or not? Thanks.
species, not strain. and no, those are Papaver orientalis. not Papaver somniferum. i advise you not to try making a potion from these. they are high in thebane, but pretty much devoid of morphine and codeine. thebane is a cumulative poison. i don't think you'll be wanting the paperavine either.
also, they aren't reseeding they are a perrenial the rootstock lives almot indefinately.
