Battle of the elements (super nerdy idea)
    #4211912 -

if you could watch a fight to the death between any two elements of the periodic table, which would you choose and why.

I would choose Silicon vs. Plutonium!

Silicon would be cool because not only is it half metal, half non-metal (kinda like how Blade is half vampire and half human), but it can form up to six bonds because of it's vacant 3d orbital. Also, it can form semiconductors used in the most advanced microprocessors. It would be a very keen and crafty opponent.

But Plutonium has a 7f orbital which can form many more bonds than silicon, AND it can shoot radiation at it's opponent. The problem is though that it is HUGE and probably very slow. I'd bet it doesn't have very good aim. It's pretty unstable too. But the potential for nuclear fusion makes up for these disadvantages.

I bet it would be a crazy fight!

Battle of the Elements.... [Re: Le_Canard]
    #4212486 -

A cool battle that I can think of because it lasts for a while is putting a chunk of the metal Sodium or Potassium into water....
The violent reaction makes it float on the top of the water, and it catches on fire shooting flames off the water/metal contact....
It is pretty fuckin cool actually....!
The Sodium's flame color is orange, and Potassium's color is purple....
That is all I can remember having a reaction to water, or actually seeing it(science class YEARS ago)....
They have to keep it in kerosene so it doesn't oxidize....
.
And water is Not an element per-say~, but it is in a different sense....

The real new stuff is exotic atoms, and following logically exotic elements.

Crazy shit.
