Why is the sound of your own voice so comforting?

I've noticed that when I go a long time without talking I start to feel lonely, even if I'm around other people. As soon as I talk it goes away though. And when I'm alone, and I talk outloud to myself, the feeling of loneliness goes away. I guess this is why some people talk to themselves.

your inner music is from the cadences of your early childhood.
i think your speech is derived from that music.

I think its more just the act of talking. Also having to form a coherent thought that you can express through speech is itself a good brain exercise.

I do like talking, and I always sing when I'm by myself :smile:

But personally I hate hearing my own voice. Ever heard a tape of yourself played back to you?
