i have dsl modem connected to my router, the router has 2 comps. attached to it i am trying to get apache accessible to the outside world I run a port scan from http://scan.sygatetech.com/prequickscan.html and it tells me port 80 is blocked
i forwarded port 80, and the ip of my apache box through the router and forwarded port 80, with the ip of my router through the modem that didn't work
i forwarded port 80, and the ip of my apache box through the router i forwarded port 80, and the ip of my apache box through the modem that didn't work either
im a little lost now what else should i try? can i turn off the firewall on the modem, and just use the firewall on the router? should i use both?
im still playing with it but some help would be very welcome thanks

I may be mistaken, but I believe that some ISPs will block port 80 precisely to prevent people from doing what you are attempting. You could set up Apache to use an alternate port, but this would have to be specified when accessing your web pages. Another alternative is provided by services which will redirect http requests to a specific (non-standard) port on your computer. They also provide a service where, even if you have dhcp and your IP changes it will accommodate this and make sure that http requests get through (but it requires a resident program on your computer). Or you could contact your ISP and pay them extra money to open up the port.

Well, you're probably at least three steps ahead of me. Have you scoured the router manufacturer's website for clues? Perhaps there is a new version of the router's bios that may address this problem. Be careful with this one though. A while back I upgraded my router's bios and then had trouble with VPN connectivity. Returning the bios to the previous version solved that problem.
Just some random thoughts... - Do both computers work simultaneously with internet connectivity (not as a server, but just browsing)?
- Are you showing any collisions on your hub/switch?
- Are all network cards set to the same speed or auto? One time I had problems and had to manually set the network card speed on one computer, this solved the problem. I don't know why it wouldn't work on auto...
- Have you tried switching out your network cables?

try a different port (23456 or something [http://yourip:23456]) and double check that its on your end. If it works im betting your ISP blocked port 80
