Any reason in particular you're going with Cold Fusion?

I think you'd have much better luck with PHP, Ruby on Rails or even Java servlets.

Doesn't help with your question but I think it's good advice.

Peace,

As I understand it: Cold fusion is probably much easier to program in if all you know is HTML. Looking at programming languages from a business perspective, only Ruby has a higher level of abstraction and can rival it for brevity of code, ease of debugging and maintenance (time is $$). Good technical support is available from Allaire and it is an established company. The newer versions of Cold Fusion integrate Java on the same platform, giving you the flexibility of using that as well. Database access is seamless and handled by the Cold Fusion platform. Many other useful functions are built into the Cold Fusion platform that aren't in others. Is it ready for prime time? A good friend of mine has built what was the first and only* fully HIPAA compliant electronic medical records system in Cold Fusion single handedly. His start-up company has the product in use by doctors and medical groups.

That being said, the utility of any language depends upon the programmer and his comfort and competency levels with it. It would be counter productive to have a Cold Fusion programmer spend time for a project learning Ruby when he is already familiar with Cold Fusion and would accomplish the same task(s) much quicker and with less mistakes using a language he is familiar with - or vice versa.

*At the time HIPAA regulations were finalized it was the only one.

If you haven't invested any money or effort into learning Cold Fusion, I would suggest you investigate Ruby on Rails as an alternative.

coldfusion works fine, apache works fine, but I cannot get windows to work with coldfusion, because I don't run ies, and I'm trying to substitute apache 2, which is supposedly the right version to work with coldfusion's mx version, (free use!)

so maybe I'm not doing something right.  windows is using inetpub as the local host folder, and refers to the localhost as localhost,  i'm assuming apache usese a different folder, and a different name for localhost,  Is this what I'm not doing right?  if so how do I tweak apache to use default windows settings...

i'll check out ruby on rails too,  hoping it is free.

well, I hope you all can help me out,  because some guy thinks I know alot about computers, and says he will paint my car, if I set up a server on his 4 new computers.  so I am trying to learn as fast as possible
