anybody not tape jars?

just wondering if during steaming if anyone just put a layer of foil over the lids and holes instead of using tape? is this just asking for contamination or should the foil and verm layer help make some splendid magic?

should be fine, especially with the verm layer
tape is cheap however

in a computer genrerated virtual reality environment i tried using foil to cover glasses (no lids but with a verm layer), that worked , but only just, lost about 75% to contams

What you are trying to avoid is steam getting in your jars and ruining your substrate with too much moisture content.
I jsut leave the lids on and I don't bother with holes anyways.
When it comes time to innoculate, I just take the lid off completely and quickly innoculate. Unless you are living in a pig sty surrounded by loaves of mouldy bread and rotting corpses in the corner, this is the easiest way to do it.

So many people think that, by default, the air is 'contaminated'.

I used tinfoil and got 100% success ;)

i have never taped. when i used to do it, sometimes i wouldn't use anything. at times, water would trickle into the verm layer but rarely if ever did it lead to contamination.
