Help with jar preperation please...

Hi, This is my first time cultivating. I've got a heap of jars filled with substrate. I sterilized by steaming for over an hour. Now I'm waiting to get some spore prints, I've been waiting for over a week (which is how long I've had the sterilized jars for) and none of them show any sign of contamination at all, I expected at least one would - especially since I opened the lid of one of them and dropped in some mycelium to see what would happen. Well, nothing yet - not even contams. It got me thinking that maybe they're too airtight. They're just plastic snap on lids, but before I put them on I put a sheet of alfoil over the top vermiculite layer which makes the lids a really tight fit. I was worried that no steam could get in there to sterilize it. I'm also worried that once inocculated, nothing will happen due to lack of air. First I thought I had no contams after a week because I was ultra sterile - but two days ago, like I said, I opened one of them (the shittiest smallest one) and put in all this dried cow manure with mycelium on it, just for a stupid experiment because I was bored. Well you'd think that would contam it for sure. I put the lid back on and nothing's happened yet. What to do?

They're going to need some air exchange. Drill 1/2 inch holes in the lids and suff with polyfill. Ideally, this should be done before steaming.

What do you want to grow, mushrooms or contaminations? Don't be dissapointed that you didn't get any contams, that is a GOOD thing! But I should mention, most of the contams seem to come from the spores, which you havn't recieved yet. Also, the steam does not penatrate the substrate. If it did, the substrate would be left soaking wet. The steam merely heats everything up to a point where things become sterile. As for air, I leave a small airspace in the jar but, in nature, the mycelium is underground or undershit and recieves NO air. So go figure!
