PRINTS on laminate card stock

Contam, water & tamper proof print.

If you have an impulse sealer? You can get fairly thick laminate material in 8.5X11 inch sheets at Kinko's or OfficeDepot. Cut to card stock size, sanitize & make your prints on it.

Once a print is set firm & dry, sanitize another piece of laminate, lay over the print & seal all 4 sides with the impulse sealer (set on high). :thumbup: :grin:

To make a spore syringe without exposure to open air (with a syringe containing sterile water), simply insert syringe needle into one side of the laminate, inject 2 or 3 ml of water, massage print to get spores into solution & asperate solution.

For those without a sealer I have used a iron for clothes with success. You must fold over some paper and put the plastic in between the folded edge so you have no direct contact with the hot iron. Practise before you try it with your prints though.

I use all sorts of things, including petri dishes. Not easily shipped though :frown: For syringe making, often just a rubbermaid with a self healing port in it.



I've been looking for a good shipping method though..I hate dealing with tin foil. Seems like alot of sealing work for a print though and me and my sealer dont seem to get along to well...maybe I'll dig it back out and practice some more..it has been like 6 months.

Is one material better than the other?
Is static a problem with either?
Why the big difference in amounts of h20 between the two threads? 2-3 in this vs 20 in the other. Is this due to the rigidness of the laminate material?

Laminate is RIGID.
For larger solutions, the bag material is better.
Thin PP bags can give you static problems.
If you don't have one of these.

The thicker bags (UNICORN) are a polymer blend & don't have static troubles.

Since there are some experienced folks posting in this thread, and I don't know why I doubt Magash's tek, but it seems too unclean. Call me dumb and a n00b, is there a preferred print tek? I just don't see how one can get a clean print with some of the teks I've seen.

How to clean the cap after cutting? Before or after the veil breaks? And if they veil hasn't broken, will the cap drop spores after you cut the veil with a sterile blade? And is contact of the tgills okay on the print surface medium?

Main concern here is taking a cap from an unsterile environment, providing it with a sterile environment in which to drop its spores, and then removing it. How do you all do this. Let's assume no flowhood is available.

Geez. Vast stores of knowledge, expertise, and imagination, and you're psychic, too! I have been contemplating what the best print stock would be after visiting the FSPRC (I think that's right. Free Spore Print Ring Canada?) website.

Paper or unlaminated cardboard struck me a difficult to work with, and I really did not know how big a problem static electricity would be with some plastic materials. I was thinking, maybe drafting vellums, but heavy laminate stock seems ideal.

Would FoodSaver/Seal-a-Meal bags work as well? I already have those things, and a sealer, lying around.

Foodsaver bags will work but static is a big problem with them. Once you try adding that second piece or sealing that second piece, you will see spores jump all over the plastic.

Its actually pretty easy to get clean prints without being to sterile. I keep my grow chamber and bedroom pretty clean and free of mold and mold spores. When I want to print something, grab a Exacto and pin, pin in the top of the cap (swabbing the top with alcohol seems like a good idea) and slice right in the chamber, and throw it on what I'm printing and cover it. Then into my glovebox, which is a rubbermaid with a lid that flips open from the middle (and flips and folds back together). I lay it on its side and flip open half of the top, and leave the other half (the part up top, when on its side) closed. Then you have a place to put your hands. Then just pop it out 24 hours later. Until a few weeks ago, I just set them out though and removed the prints in a clean open air environment.

I believe the reason agar goes to more of a length for sterility is for sending prints out, as many as he does. A 10% contam rate for Magash, only needing to do maybe a print or two a week for himself wouldnt be bad..take a few prints, test them out, if 1 out of 10 prints is dirty, no big loss. If you send out a contamed print though, its a little different, you want to be sure the person gets a clean print 99% of the time.

This could be a good way of supplying the free spore rings. Make up a batch of these with no prints in them and sterilize them. Then suck up a few sterile prints and inject a tiny amount into each sealed laminate envelope.

I think a vacutioner would ship better then one of these enveopes that was injected with 3cc's of water and taped..

Nice info and pics everyone.  Thanks. 

Let's just say I am living in a fairly non-sterile (not quite filthy, but, I can't see microscopic ambient spores or microbes :smirk:).
If one were to cut a cap off right before the veil broke, put it in some tinfoil, transfer to a glovebox where a sterile jar with a crosswire set-up over the top was waiting...swabbed the cap with alcohol and then sliced the cap veil off with a sterile blade, then set the cap on the crosswire...would the spores drop into the jar?  I mean, if a cap is cut before the veil breaks, then one cuts the veil away, will the spores drop as the cap dries?

I harvest caps for PRINTING, just as the veil is about to tear.

Remove veil.

Place them on laminate, in a sterile filter/patch container.
