i fear that im loathing the movie
    #4179999 -

ok, so the title of this post was shitty at best, oh well. i just wanted to say that i didnt like fear and loathing, the movie atleast. i still have to read the book. i found it annoying and repetitive. all they did was get messed up. i can appreciate some of the humer like the z on his head instead of the x when he woke up from trying to kill himself, but they didnt even have any shrooms, which i think has the best trip of all, or atleast it sounds lilke they have the best trip.

As your internet confidant I advise you to watch the movie again. Either while your thought process is slightly askew or while you are engaged in a fully blown, shotgun to the cerebral cortex state of inebriation.

You just ruined my whole weekend because of course now I'm going to have to listen to my own advice.

sorry if i ruined your weekend, dont listen to me. im just letting my opion out there, i think the reason i didnt like the move though was that i was watching it in my sisters room, on the floor, while she was cleaning. i dont like my sister so thats probably why. i will rent it and watch it in my room by myself.

first time i watched it i said"i don't get it" then i waited a while b4 i watched it again, in the mean time i read the book. get it from your library or buy it then read. it's a movie that takes time to set in, reading it is a little easier.

He didn't try to kill himself in the movie. The "Z" was there because if you listen to the lawyer when he's tripping on a high dose of acid, he says, "I didn't want to slice you up, I just wanted to carve a little Z in your forehead." Then Gonzo goes to sleep, the lawyer sobers up and as a joke he puts the Z on his forehead for when he wakes up.

Man, I watch that movie way too many times.

listen, the movie is alright, but read the book. The movie makes no sense. I watched the movie a few times, and I was like wtf. Than I was like, ok I think I get it. Than I read the book (which a really easy read) and all I could say was OOOH, the book is great, and packs A LOT of meaning about that decade. Its one of the best books on the sixities. As I learned move about the sixites the book made sense when they mentioned sonny barger, ken kessey, spiro agnew. I just knew what he was trying to say, and the book says much more than the movie.

In short, read the book. You can find it at your libary, but in my opinon that book is something you should buy. Now on top of all that, the book at the time was one of the newest fads in journalism that thompson helped produce. Thompson created Gonzo journalism, during the whole New Journalism craze with tom wolfe back in the sixities.

It took me a few times of watching it to really appreciate it, but i do agree with whoever sed this earlier in the thread that it does get slightly repetitive, they keep waking up in hotel rooms, but i can look past that, it is still a great part of the movie. I have to say tho, that the best part(s) is when he is typing to himself, and he talks about the wave that was the sixties and the high water mark, it almost brings a tear to my eye because I'll never know what it was like...

If you didn't like the movie because "all they did was get fucked up", then you're not gonna like the book much more.

Hunter sucked. That book blows. Hell, On The Road is a boring book about nothing (and I DO get it, I'm just not impressed by a story about a guy driving around America like it's some kind of radical statement or something. It's not exciting or radical it's just boring. Even for the time). And Fear And Loathing, Christ, it's just a pumped up imitation of Kerouac. The depictions of drug use aren't even realistic. The writing sucks. Hell, there's millions of Internet blogs that are more interesting. And the movie? Good Lord, it's worse than the book. Every scene is ugly and stupid. Hunter's suicide is something I really do NOT lament. If you want to read about drugs, read Huxley. Hunter was a fraud.

The book, unlike most book movie translations, is almost identical to the movie. The script is about 90% verbatim from the book. They flick did a really great job of portraying the book. If you don't like the movie then it's really not likely the book is gonna be any different in your preception.

They are both good though, watch it a few more times. mabey on a low dose of acid. It's good stuff.
