Man, I love Fear And Loathing...
    #3448068 - 12/05/04 12:49 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

It's not the deepest or most well-constructed movie, but it *is* well thought out, and damn is it fun to watch.

Sitting at home, after a nice day, just watching Fear And Loathing, Drinking Polar Ice and chilling.

Golly this is great.

Yeah every time I watch that movie I just want to go on a bender. Its hard to resist the urge to binge after watching that flick. Pretty damn good adaptation from the book too

I agree.

In fact, I reccomend checking out other pieces of thompsons writing as well.

I rather liked Kingdom of Fear.

I disagree. I didnt find that much more in the book than in the movie. A couple of bits where he really loses it arent in there, but even in the book they were just jumbles of incoherent gibbirish. I think Johnny Depp did a good job of portraying the character. just my opinion. Than again I havent read the book in a while.

The movie was more entertaining for psychedelic users than the book. However the book better represented Thompson's actual experiences and state of mind.

"Suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car... and a voice was screaming: Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?"

"As your attorney, I advise you to drive at top speed for 45 minutes and It'll be a goddamn miracle if we can get there before you turn into a wild animal. Are you ready for that? Checking into a Vegas hotel under a phony name with intent to commit capital fraud on a head full of acid?"

"Let's cut to brass tacks here...How much for the ape?"

hahaha...i love that movie, and i disagree that it doesn't have meaning...it's very well thought out, and contains a lot of symbolism (consider the american flag motif) my rhetoric class had to read this book and write about the american dream...good stuff

Though I'm not usually one to give in to Fear and Loathing quotes, here is my personal favourite.

Quote:

DUKE

There's a big... machine in the
sky... some kind of electric snake...

DUKE is curled by the window -- MESMERIZED by an unseen neon
sign outside the window. His eyes fill with a million
colored lights.

Hendostan, I posted that without seeing your post first.

Two minutes apart and the same quote... coincidence?

Or cosmic fate?

fear and loathing is a great flick for psychedelic users, because it accurately portrays a lot of different aspects of drug use. there's a rumor that depp actually tried some of the drugs to better understand how to act...i don't necessarily believe that, but it's a nice idea.

I do believe it..he lived in Hunter Thompson's basement for a few months before filming began to learn how to act like him. He's hinted at some acid use, god knows what else they consumed.
