To birth or not to birth...
    #417429 - 10/07/01 11:22 PM (22 years, 2 months ago)

....that is my question.

About 14 days ago my koala innoculated 11 half pint jars with "PF Classic". He now has a few jars that are 100% colonized. Nice rhizomorphic growth, hyphal knots, very healthy looking. He is wondering should he wait for some invitro pinning before birthing or will that just use up some of the moisture in the cakes unneccesarily. Also, he is wondering should he wait till all the jars are 100% colonized, or just put them in the terrerium as they are ready?

Thanks in advance,
UBono2

PF Classic goes invitro very easily. Just add several minutes of light a day to your normal cycle. If I were you, I would birth only if I had my chamber properly humidified. If not, I would deffently wait for invitro. Just a personal opinion.

When in doubt, wait on birthing them. If they are truly 100% colonized, then there is nothing to worry about. Additionally, I would birth each cake as it appears to be ready rather than waiting for all the cakes. Even if you try to make each jar the exact same, they won't be. If one jar is ready, go ahead and birth it. If you want to wait for a few jars to be ready, it really doesn't matter too much. My monkey waited for a few jars to be ready before any were birthed, in order to keep in the first part of the advice in mind; if in doubt, wait.
