cakes not growing

i have 2 cakes in perlite. they are just all white and fluffy and have been sitting in there for about a week. no pinning, no nothing. the temperature is probably the 70's-80's, and they get a total of about 10 hrs of light a day. the container is not airtight, but i do mist the sides a few times everyday and i put a hole in the center of each cake to give them a little water every day. will there ever be success? is there anything i can do?
also i have cased 5 cakes in plain verm, however green is getting everywhere. could the cause be that the verm. was not sterlized or the water was not clean enough? thanks for the help.

Wait. And fan 1 time a day until you see pins. Then 2 times a day.
