The Shroomery's Philosophical Community
    #4114243 - 04/30/05 11:56 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Most people just comes, makes a few internet weed-head posts for a month or two, then disappear. Seriously, 90% of the community cycles in and out on about a 2 monthly basis. Am I wrong?

Can't say I've noticed that...

The way I look at it, people who only come around and make a couple posts then disappear don't count... so if we're just talking about people who actually stick around and become involved, I think that 90% is an innaccurate figure.

I do agree that a portion is always coming and going... I just think 90% is an excessive number.

Its still better than the people who occasionally pop in and out to make snide observations about the state of this forum.

but that doesn't count!

You're taking group B from the total group A, and saying "well only group B counts" based on your own subjective criteria.

Ja, but the group that was initally referred to is actually a small minority - newcomers to this board either quickly disappear, or they dig it and become at least somewhat frequent posters.

The majority of the content (or lack of content ) seems to be contributed by familiar faces...

I'd delve into the murky depths of OTD and return with goatse to knock you out of commission, but I'm simply too traumatized and terrified of that fucking thing to be able to do so.

That, and apparently, using goatse isn't really an acceptable debate tactic... :frown:

I think it sucks when you see that people that you really appreciate abandon the forum.
But we'll all do that at one point, its just that some do it sooner than others.

is that so? Do you have any statistics? Poster-wise, I'm sure it's a much larger count. Post count wise, it's tough to tell. Remember spacedragon? I'm not a regular here either but there's plenty of my posts here.

I hear that but it just gets my goat how people on the internet act like friends.  Make little pictures to symbolize themselves.  Appoint themselves little titles.  "master of shrooms" "psychedelic adventurer" "head honcho" "awesome nigga".  Then bye, you never see them again.  It's like my experience in real life.  People are such fucks how they come and try to get attention and all this bullshit and then dissappear.  I had a friend who worked at a quickie mart and he was a damn good employee but they never gave him a raise and the people who joined the work team got the same wage as he did even though they were just starting and he'd been there for years.  And that's like how internet forums are... I love you all though.

I'm sure spacedragon is largely responsible for the majority of the over 700 posts in zorbman's thread dedicated to his original thread...

But that's the only statistic I have.

I still don't know if would be a larger count poster-wise, as compared to what we could call "regulars" (I consider the people that you only see like a few times a month regulars, as they are still familiar and relatively frequent).

I mean, ja, we always see people pop in and out, perhaps we don't notice it as much because they are a little more invisible, as they aren't reinforced in our minds, but its usually the same ol' crowd...

I think that people relate to themselves more than they relate to others... I totally agree with you in a lot of respects, perhaps it is the source of a lot of problems we have in this day and age...

However, I definitely see a main core of posters here, and I do feel they make up the majority (maybe because I'm usually here at least every other day, and notice the long-term posting trends), who are truly interested in this forum and its subsequent community, the people who post here, and the ideas that we toss around...

I think this one is really just a matter of perspective, as we all play different roles at different times, and witness and observe different states of existance Spirituality and Philosophy evolves into... :mushroom2: I guess the only way to remedy the problem is to become the change one wishes to see (if one actually does want this to change ).. Take an intimate interest in those who post here and the ideas that are exchanged... It resonates and reverberates and reamplifies...

you are not wrong as you are not totaly right, some come for some knowledge, others come to pass the time, some find it hard to get excepted and move on to another comunity. Some use this as an outlet to be able to talk with people that arnt so easily found in the outside world. I have come and i have gone, my first couple years was totaly about knowledge. Came looking only for answers. Then i went on did my things. Then i would come in from time to time, and ended up making friends remembering the faces of those who helped.

that's true I suppose.
I initially swore to myself just to ask the questions I needed to ask on the cultivation forum and not waste any time with the rest of the community...hence the stupid name....

Well I mean the community appeals to me, obviously I keep coming back to it. I had another username I used from Jan 2001 to May 2002, I made a thousand or two posts under that username. Always trying to be honest, or trying to be funny. Noone really ever took any notice of me then, or now, who gives a shit. So now I don't care if my posts are shitty. I don't care if most of my contributions are negative contributions, noone takes any notice either way..

I really had so much hope in what Terence McKenna says about the psychedelic experience having absolute meaning and not just being fucked up on chemicals... but it seems to me like the Shroomery is evidence against that. Because the average person here is no different than average person on the ecstasy messageboard or the porsche messageboard or the goddamn whatever messageboard...it's just random and people come and go like the wind, like mushrooms are just another hobby (phase) you can take up, like fishing or getting into fine art or playing poker... it's like they really aren't such a helpful thing to impart wisdom or to make people loving or empathetic or anything (based on the shroomery community) but then you know be the change you want to see, yeah yeah yeah, i sort of tried that for a while, maybe i will try that thing again in the future.

chemicals such as what is in mushrooms only open gateways to what is already in our mind. Do not search outside yourself for the answers cuz they are all within.

Any thing you do can be posetive if YOU see it as posetive... But take that same thing you look at as posetive and give it to some one else they may see something totaly different.

Were are all people here doing what we call our lifes that is all and its kind of hard to see that we in a way are all we truely have....
