Can anyone else feel their heart beat through their whole body and skin?

This is pretty frequent for me and it just bothers me a lot. Let me see if I can get it out in words well enough.

Lets say I'm sitting down to meditate. I sit there and breathe, but every time my heart beats it's like my whole body pulses with it. I can feel it on my skin, in my ears. It's just like a "whump, whump, whump" and it just shakes through my body. It's not like a painful thing, or a scary thing, or even a terribly bad thing. But it's distracting. I can hear and feel my heart beat. It just resonates inside my whole body.

And when I'm sleeping it happens too. I just feel it. It beats, I resonate. It beats, I resonate.

I'm not getting any exercise before this is happening. I'm not all shaken up, I'm not rattled, I'm not hyper. But if it's quiet, and I'm still, I can feel my heart beat through my whole body.

Does this ring any bells? Does anyone follow me on this?

Yes the sensation of feeling your heartbeat is called "palpitations" and can be quite distressing at times when it gets really bad.

I have a mild arrhythmia that makes my heartbeat VERY noticeable to me. I can feel the insides of my chest moving around with each thud-thud-thud-thud. It's a the worst when I am lying down to sleep at night (the arrhythmia only really shows up at slower pulse rates). Feels like my whole chest hops up and down!

I went to see a doc about it a few years ago when I really started to notice it. They ran the usual ECG and Ultrasound tests, then told me that I was actually in excellent cardiac health and that I shouldn't worry about the arrhythmia OR the palpitations.

That feeling that you get, of your whole body pulsing after a heartbeat, and I am taking a huge leap here, just might be the blood being pumped by your heart. But I could be wrong.

Yes, but normally people are not aware of their heartbeat.

Many cardiac conditions can cause you to become aware of your own heartbeat (palpitations), especially arrhythmia's and such.

50-60% of HEALTHY young adults get something called "ventricular premature beats" - where the ventricles beat FIRST instead of the top half of the heart. It is usually followed by a "skipped" beat which I think is rather noticeable. It can also feel like an overly-strong beat.

It's usually nothing to worry about, and many people who do get VPB's don't even know they have them. I have a rather small chest (I'm a small guy) so I think that probably makes it more noticeable in my case.

freddurgan: it is probably nothing to worry about, but when it comes to your ticker you should always error on the side of caution! You may want to talk to your doc about it, and he could have you do a ECG/ultrasound to make sure there are no serious problems.

My doc told me these type of things were really common, especially in young or old people, but that it shouldn't be anything to worry about. She also told me it would most likely go away in a few years. I first started to notice the arrhythmia about 4 years ago and it is definitely much less common these days, so I think it will go away.

If you drink caffeine, cutting it out of your diet entirely may help get rid of the sensation.

Do you notice it most when you are laying down or resting? Is it stronger if you lay on one side than the other?

I'm not really sure about one side or the other, but it's mostly when I'm laying down or resting. If I'm really tired it's like..incredibly strong. I just pulse, straight up.

Yeah you may have a mild arrhythmia, I guess. It becomes most noticeable when your pulse rate is slower, at faster rates the arrhythmia tends to disappear, so you can feel it most when you are resting with a lower pulse rate.

AKA meditation, which it is distubing me during. Maybe I'll focus on the pulse instead of the breathing.
