OK I'm convinced I want to use strait up horse crap for my next project but...
Oh Where Oh Where do I find this poo???
I live in a pretty big city so coming across stables and farms isn't normal.
Do I follow the cops on their horses and pickup what poo is left behind??
What do you say to farmers if I happen to drive near a farm??? Last time I picked up a bail of straw for this project the guy was asking me, what do you need this for??
Reply "Umm bunnies"
I also asked him for poo then and then he passed me a bag of composted cow shit. When asked I need strait poo he said it was too acidic and it would ruin what ever I needed it for.
What do I say for this next project?
I'm thinking of even going to the stables in the local racetrack and seeing if I can get something form there.
Can I order it to my house, would it be to heavy to ship?? I'm in north of the border.
Thanks Sorry for the crappy question.

I was out picking morels in a local state park that allows horseback riding on some trails this weekend. I picked up a good quantity of poo from the parking lot where horses are unloaded and walking the horse trails. I did get some strange looks but no one questioned me. Cant wait to try my first poo grow.

yes- and i highly reccomend the product, too. give Tennesse Stud Substrates a go. they also have that is pre-pasteurized. it's as easy as one...two...spawn.

Don't bother to follow the cops around, go to the stable There are probly shroomies growing right there and you can get some poo too. J/K, of course. Tenn stud is really great deal

I second the Tennesee stud shit. I would recomend the 50/50 straw for consitancy. Its the most convintant way to get poo if you dont know of a local source. It's also is ready to use when it arrives. (pre-pasturized and water content is PERFECT). Shipping in the states is only $5 but it would probly be more for where your at.

You look in the local phone book under horses, horse stables, horse boarding, horse riding academy etc.
There are horses almost everywhere. You can find some, if you look. On average a single horse creates 35 pounds of manure a day. It doesn't take many horses, to create a huge h/poo pile - quickly.

I contacted a horse racing stable yesterday and they let me take all the poo that I wanted, I found myself stepping out for lunch and within 20 min I was standing on huge pile of shit with my dress shoes shoveling hot steaming poo into a bag, I probably got over 100 lbs worth.
Problem was I don't think it was aged and it seemed as it was combined with wood shavings.
Also when I tried to pasteurize it yesterday I soaked it underwater baked it for 170 for 2 hours then drained it. I don't think I got enough water out of it, so It looks like I may a bad case.
Next time I'm not going to wet it, and for all those who asked if it stinks.
HELL YA!! ewww, not until you wet it though.

good poo dont stink even after you wet it. That poo was not aged. You want the stuff that is almost like dirt. Nothing hot or steamy at all.

it doesnt take 3 years to get the poo to the right age. A couple of months outside in the elements will do the trick if you spread it out a little.

Nambi maybe you can tell the farmer that you are going to use the horse poo as fertilizer for your rose bushes or some plant that needs acidic soil. You can dry out some poo yourself too. Here's a link about cultivating on horse poo and contains some other info. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/723303/an/0/page/5
