Aussie ID help!
    #407213 - 09/28/01 02:21 AM (23 years, 6 months ago)

This is a species i have picked repeatedly over this year in Melbourne Australia. It displays similar characteristics to Ps. Cyanescens - as in wavy cap, etc. It has unique features in that it was growing in a wild and not man-made lignious area, the biggest specimen here had a cap diameter of approx 2.5inches and an already bluish hollow stem of approx 4 inches height and 1/2 inch thick. Also displays distant gills, a convex to uplifted and wavy cap that has a reddy brown cap similar to specimens of Ps.Eucalytpus - medium to poor spore depositer...Also it displays no umbo..thanx for any help!!

Hi, Bluemeanie!
MJShroomer is currently in Thalland, if you didn't already know.
He did stop in this morning to say hi, though. That's cool!
I don't think he'll get your message as it probably won't be current the next time he visits The Shroomery. If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure he'll be back in late October.
When he is officially back in Seattle, you should either bump this post back up or start a new thread with your unidentified cyanny-looking mushroom! Hehe! If you forget or whatever, I'll try and remember to bump this thread up myself, so that we can get to the bottom of this!
Yeah, those pics sure look similar to cyans, but I take your word for the differences, etc. I don't know if anyone else here can answer your questions about it. Although, it'd be really cool if someone could! MJ will definitely give you some valuable informatin at the least.
Anyhow, stay cool and keep a shroomin'-Levi7.

It's probably a variety of Ps. cyanescens. It doesn't look too different. Remeber that the environment plays a huge role on the phenotype of fungi...

Yeah - it is very similar - but i picked it in a wild environment and it is huge in relation to other Ps. Cyanescens, a different colour and also no-where near as potent...thanx for your help though!

FunkY!! Dutchie and a Doctor of Botany have given me tentative IDs on smaller specimens that grow on campus as being Psilocybe Cyanescens and they are VERY potent little shits!! But these were different in many way and I picked them in the middle of a bloody forest, and MJ said that there has only been one find of Ps.Cyanescens in the US that was not growing in a manmade garden area...weird shit eh?

my first impression is Ps australiana, except most of these would be smaller, and have an umbo.

they don't look much like the Western Washington USA cyans that i have collected, which are generally bigger. sorry not much help.
