Fruity Loops Studio; step sequencer to playlist
    #4035036 - 04/09/05 05:18 PM (19 years, 11 days ago)

Alright, so I've set up a few sounds in the step sequencer, and would like to break the looping and make a song out of it. I go to the playlist, and under "Pattern 1" I can see all the work I have done. But each other pattern tab doesn't show this work. How can I take all my note and arrange them into patterns that I can switch back and forth between? I can't figure out how to devide the notes into the patterns, when I adding and subtracting the parts that play it works for the "pattern 1" tab, but doesn't show up in any other tabs.
Help?

Ok, I can definitely help you out with this, but I'm a little unsure of what you're asking.

You've got a sequence in pattern 1, now click on pattern 2 in the playlist and create a second sequence. Now in the playlist click and fill in a box for pattern 1 and pattern 2, so there are 2 boxes vertical. up by the play button, switch it over from 'pattern' to 'song' and it will play every pattern you've 'painted' in on the playlist.

Does this help?

i would say every single question youve ever had about using any music program should be directed here

http://www.dogsonacid.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=4

this is the biggest and most helpful music prod site on the face of the planet. watch out though, it's also the most cynical.

I find www.futureproducers.com to be one of the best music forums on the net.

Complete helpless FL noob here too. I've tried to interpret the help files, but they aren't helping me figure this out:

I've figured out that patterns and the playlist and how to make an entire song, but there is one part of the interface I cannot at all figure out: Is there any way to make the patterns line up evenly? I can only seem to manually drag them around with the mouse.

I want to alternate between patterns 1 and 2. I figured out a way around my problem: with "Paint", I can get a whole line of them perfectly lined up with the playlist timing grid, then I manually subtract where I don't want to hear that pattern. But that is a pain in the balls.

So, is there a way to get the painted pattern blocks to snap into their proper time slots?

yeah, there's a pull-down menu (new to FL5) to the right of the Play/Stop buttons that says SNAP. This will apply to the piano roll and the playlist, but whatever divisor you have it on the smaller you can edit patterns and midi notes.
If you are working on simple rhythms and pattern-arranging keep it on "Beat" while working in the Playlist. This way you can easily line them up.

Thanks, man. I can't believe I couldn't figure that out. I guess we all have to start somewhere
