acid pro or fruity loops
    #6918463 - 05/15/07 01:54 AM (16 years, 10 months ago)

I have both programs and I am interested in creating some hip hop beats or some nice goa/psy-trance. Does anyone have any experience with this and know which program is better/easier. I also need a guide cause I have no clue what I am doing.

Fruity loops in a sequencer program that allows you to build you own original beats. (bass drum, snare, high hat, cymbals, toms..etc)  You build your beats with small audio samples that are triggered by the midi sequencer.  Its a very easy program to get the hang of for beginners.

Acid's a little different.  Tho it does have midi capabilities, its really a loop based program.  So you would get drum loops, instrument breaks, bass lines and kind of splice it all together to build something.  Its also great for working with actual audio steams.. something fruity doesn't focus on.

Your best bet is to experiment with both and mix them both up.  Build a nice beat in fruity and bring into acid and put some audio loops over it.  Search the forums for the wealth of audio information we have in here.

Good luck! Its going to be a rewarding investment once you get passed the learning phase.

Just get cubase and lots of samples/plugins. It will take alot longer to learn/produce anything, but it will be much more rewarding.

He wants to create beats. Fruity is far more simplistic and easier to learn then cubase. Cubase can look really intimidating to someone who has no DAW experience. Fruity and Acid will warm him up. You can still use plug In's in fruity. You can also bring in your own samples.

Cubase great for working with actual recorded sound/VST's. Even after learning cubase, I still love fruity. All tho, my style of music I deal with is orchestral and live percussion driven so I find my self working in cubase much more.

I suggest you to register at www.futureproducers.com forums. There are lots of musicians sharing their knowledge and techniques.

Fruity is a good tool to start with. Once you got to know all the tricks and ways this program-s opportunities are endless. Too bad I'm lacking of talent/motivation to give it some real use.

I suggest you start out with Fruity Loops.
Begin with the given samples, then seek out other hit samples (as opposed to loops).
the FL interface is really easy to learn, and a great intro to MIDI and digital composing in general.

Then move to something like Cubase.

theyre both pretty primitive, and restrict you alot from doing any real production. If you just wanna simple fuck around with loops and what not, I'd go with fruityloops over acid. It all depends on what your looking for basically. You can really get indepth with any real sequencing in either programs.
