What will egg shells do??
    #402955 - 09/24/01 07:56 PM (23 years, 8 months ago)

I've heard of people putting oyster shells in with their substrate to help the mushies grow better......(i.e more flushes and fatter yields). well, i was wondering if anyone ever tried just plain old egg shells? would this work ok?? how much would one put in with their substrate? I'm just using verm/brf as substate.....any help is greatly appreciated!!

The best possible answer that I think anybody could give you would only be an educated guess. You might never know untill you try. I would say give it a two jar test run. Two jars will give a pretty good understanding on speed of colonization and pinning (if you make it that far) and if both jars get contaminated with the same color mold you know that it is probably the eggshells.

they go in the casing to replace lime to change pH, powder them or the oyster shell and sterilize with casing...but dont take my word for it, do what phrozendata says.

Be sure to wash them well before crushing to remove the egg remains, also baking for some time to kill possible bacteria wouldn?t be a bad idea.
