Not Eating or Drinking, Living Off of Prana

Has anyone heard of Saints or yogis that don't eat anything nor drink anything, including water? I've heard reprots of people in history and present times that just sustain themselves off of 'prana,' that is the energy of the universe,' and don't need sustenance. The reason most people aren't able to do this is because when their minds were weak they were conditioned to eat, and not eating then naturally causes us to panic and fear, which drives away the elevated vibrations needed to not eat.

Yeah, I've heard of it... they practice a pseudo version of it in Ethopia. It's a result of poverty, a lack of money, and the lack of modern technology.
AFAIK most people die from it.

I've heard reprots...
Hearing a far-fetched story is evidence of nothing. Wiley Brooks, famed breatharian, was found eating doughnuts. Of course, he had his excuses; something about the chaos of the city disrupting pranic energy.

I remember reading a couple years ago about one guy that supposedly fed off of sunlight. Anyone else remember that? When the doctors or scientists or whoever checked him out they observed that his liquid waste was reabsorbed back into his body through the bladder wall. I never heard anything about though, after the news story.

Who knows ... It has the potential to be one of the newest weight-loss fads around.
Guranteed to reduce fat, or at least the number of fat people around.

Your ability to read 100s of disparate people's minds has as much credence as the wafer story.

In the state of supra-consciousness our bodies remain in suspension electrified by the cosmic energy.

The law of gravitation worked as efficiently before Newton as after him. The cosmos would be fairly chaotic if its laws could not operate without the sanction of human belief." -- Sri Yukteswar

What's supra-conciousness?
What do you mean "our bodies remain in suspension"?

Ram Dass once wrote about a Catholic nun named Theresa Neumann - a contemporary - who claimed to eat only a single eucharistic wafer a day. She was also described as 'zaftig,' fleshy. Personally, I think this flies in the face of reality. India has lots of stories about yogis sitting in caves, looking like corpses except that their hair and nails continue to grow. They are, according to theory, tuned in to the source of Prana and its various forms in the astral sheath (Apana, Samana, Udana and Vyana). There are also five minor vital forces.
Pranayama, the fourth limb of classic Yoga, supposedly opens the cosmic source (Kundalini-Shakti) of Prana into the yogi through the Root Chakra, which is then stored in the Solar Plexus Chakra - like a belly full of food, only pure vital energy instead, undercutting the need to digest and transmute physical matter into energy (function of the Samana Prana). Thus, astral sheath processes nourish the physical sheath - according to theory.

There was a news broadcast a long time ago showing an elderly lady from India who survived a (I think a Monsoon -- it wasnt the Tsunami) which blew her house over on top of her. She had no water or food for 45 days and survived.
The details I dont really remember, I just remember a lady in India survived without food or water for 45 days. Trying to find a link but cant think of a good search string.

According to this: http://www.hindu.com/2005/02/23/stories/2005022304511000.htm
Someone survived in the aftermath of the tsunami for 13 days without food or water, a long time for sure, but nothing extremely shocking. There was a girl who survived in the jungle for 45 days on tubers and wild berries.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the longest time without food or water is 18 days.

Supraconsciousness is a state of oneness. When this is reached through meditation our body ceases its basic functions. Our lungs and heart stop working. On suspension, yes... This is more revitalizing than sleep.

Can I reach supraconciousness by shooting myself in the head?

I've heard of certain yogis who can subsist on prana alone. Taoists have similar legends and theories, whereby the Sage lives on Chi (for the few who may not know, Chi is the chinese equivilent of Prana). There are sometimes slight differences, though. There tend to be two outcomes. Either you live on Chi alone and persist in your current state, or you begin to depend on Chi and the body ends up dying and the spirit becomes immortal. I suppose I don't quite understand the second outcome, seeing as, according to Taoism, we are all Tao, and an individual self is an illusion, therefore an individual spirit living forver would be an ultimate illusion.

i've heard some of these stories. one of them that I read on some weird russian news site said that these people live off the bacteria that lives in their intestines. and something about their whole bodies functioning normally except for the stomach.
this site also seemed to suggest that the longer these people go without food, the less they desire to ever eat again. and that people can live on like that for their whole lives, as long as they gradually work their way down to eating nothing.
hey anythings possible
