Very Slow Colonization

well ive just started growing. i innoculated 10 jars about 7 weeks ago. and i asked a few weeks ago about the extremely slow rate of colonization in some of them, and i just finally opened them (they havent gotten further than that day) and found that they were contaminated so i got rid of them. i have 4 jars right now that are doin well, they have moisture on the sides of the jar and are like 97% colonized....but it just seems like they are takin very very very very long to completely colonize. does anyone have any tips or suggestions about what i may be doin wrong or about what i could do now??? thanks

I have observed that if you pack down the substrate it colonizes really really slow. My first time I packed down the substrate material as was indicated in the directions I followed and it was only partially colonized at 3 months! If you have packed your substrate I would bet money that's your problem. If not then I have no idea. Good luck!

Are they getting any air exchange. High C02 levels can cause slow colonization.

Definetly raise the temp to at least 80 degrees . They will colonize much faster. If you have a dry verm barrier on the top of jars, take the tape off of the innoculation holes and the mycelia ill breathe more and help growth.
?But I don?t want to go among mad people,? Alice remarked. ?Oh, you can?t help that,? said the Cat: I`m mad,Your mad.we`re ALL MAD!!!! hahahahaha"

How in the devil do you make sure your vermiculite layer on top is dry. I thought the 'dry' vermiculite layer was a myth. I have never removed a colonized cake to find the vermiculite layer dry, it has always been slightly damp. I always assumed it was from the pressure cooker treatment when everything under the foil was steamed at high pressure.

Take the tape off the holes and then cover this hole with an alcohol swab to act as a filter - or if your verm layer is real wet, just flip the cakes upside down and they should reach 100% very quickly - leave the cakes until they pin invirto and you'll be laughing...
