Cobweb mold questions??
    #401013 - 09/22/01 05:21 PM (24 years, 2 months ago)

I checked on 12 jars today. What I thought to be early signs of growth seems to have turned out to be cobweb mold. A thin, greyish looking growth in both the substrate and dry vermiculite layer -- it has almost taken over the whole cake. Since it happend in all 12 jars I have some possibilities? Could it be the syringe? Could it be that I didnt was the brand-new store brought jars like it said on the box? I am not too angry because it will probably set me back a week or two but I wouldnt mind some answers. Thank-You!

If you are talking about washing the jars before using them, its good habit to always soak the jars in hot water and tide with bleach then scrub them and rinse them with hot water, then move to filling them up.

All twelve? I'd suspect the syringe. Cobweb doesn't infect jars too often.

The only place I have ever seen cobweb is in a jar, growing on the dry verm layer.
