Ruh, roh, did I kill my cakes?
    #400778 - 09/22/01 12:01 PM (23 years, 3 months ago)

I accidentally pushed the "off" button on the timer that runs my humidifier and my cakes went all night w/o extra humidity. I have a little perlite in a tray in there, but not much. The humidity probably dropped into the 70's.
The little pins that were there still are, but some of them look kind of dark-headed and dry.
Are my cakes history?

Nah. Actually, the cake should hold enough moisture to sustain the shrooms by itself, so long as it's not sitting in front of a dehumidifier. 90-95% humidity is IDEAL, but your shrooms (unless they're a particularly finicky variety) ought to be just fine. The humidity in the chamber serves mostly to help maintain moisture levels in the cake for more extended periods and to prevent 'scaling' of the mushroom caps.
